Well, I ain't printin' it up. That's for sure!

The first 10 pages or so were a fun read as I was listening to my Sirius app on my ZTE dumbphone and Phillips bluetooth headphones.

Here's the abstract (snicker):

Pfft. Any number of us can enumerate the fine and not so fine points of audiophilia.

I guess I would have to read more from the actual thesis to understand why in the abstract there is a supposed threat to audiophiles to 'feminization'.

What does that even mean?

Thanks for posting those extracts. I won't read any more. Saved me some time. :thmbsp:

Years ago, I talked to Gordon Gow at Mcintosh. He noted that their assemblers of tube gear for a long time ran 60 to 70% female. Better attention to detail, more enjoyable to be around, and much better attendance.

This student missed the boat.

I don't think so. Female employees on an assembly line are not necessarily audiophiles, even at McIntosh. Even if I am wrong about that, they would represent just a small fraction of the audiophile community at large. The author is addressing the audiophile community at large.

I think he should have taken an English class or two before writing that. Those are some fairly awkward sentences. I do not seeing it scoring many points with the academic crowd.

Oh yeah, and funny how only on AK are those who are rabid about their audio reproduction are scorned by members. I can't think if any site with another hobby where those who strive to be on the leading edge are held in derision by their other hobbyists. Now there may be disagreement on methods and procedures, but not what we see by certain groups here. That is unless you have a room full of mid tier receivers and turntables from the 70's and 80's. Somehow that becomes a shrine or a mecca.

Pffft.

Academia is riddled with awkward sentences. On top of that, truly "correct" grammar is sometimes more awkward-sounding than less "correct," but more "natural" sounding forms. A famous example: what sounds better to the ears - "to go boldly," or "to boldly go?"

I read the first paragraph of the conclusion ... :lmao:

No need to bother with the main body of the paper.

Being an audiophile I SHOULD be interested to read it, I do not HAVE to agree or disagree at all.

As always, sometimes it is good to look in the mirror and what do you see.

For some, the mirror may add some distortion or lacking other qualities to provide the perceived or wanted image.

Do not agree? Soit, I consider myself an audiophile :thmbsp:

Conclusion: Audiophiles don't buy Bose lifestyle systems. ;)

Really must find some time to read the thing...

Surely you guys can't find it controversial to observe that the audiophile community is predominantly male.

Yes Sir, you are correct it is my duty as a read.
I just hope it will not sway me from buying tomorrow,Itch..:thmbsp:

I don't find it controversial, I do find it somewhat belittling. My wife doesn't buy any gear, she hasn't purchased a cd or album in 20 years, yet she has her favorite system, has her favorite volume level for different activities, and loves to sing with Mary Chapin Carpenter and Lucinda Williams.

There are many, many more passive audiophiles than people here are willing to credit. Guilt by association.

How much did he crib from AK? We have all angles more than covered here.

Indeed. Most likely so. :thmbsp:

Yet tis a shame the grand sum of such a said plethora of insightful AK info ultimately gets obliterated to pieces all over the locked thread place as a result of silly sandbox sissy fights. ;( I calls it Locked n' Lost treasure.

meh...per can of AKer corn, we're used to having to fish like that. At least this in depth and considerable opinion piece stands alone and in place; unfettered by egotistical and argumentative thread craps? :scratch2:
Dig in biches...keep yer powder dry. ;)

I think being an audiophile and liking to listen to music a lot are two different things.
