McCurdy CH-12

What else can you tell us about it? I see there’s some other McCurdy gear in that rack.
What motor does it use?
 
Honestly I know nothing about this equipment that's why I joined in thus discussion lol, later today I can take more pictures, do not even know how to hook this up , it was left to me by a family member, also some old rca massive weird machine with a needle arm the size of a large squash lol.

Well, same Ashland motor, and it looks like the same bearing too. It looks like the leads from the tonearm are torn, but that can be fixed. Are the colours of the leads legible?
 
Yes they are but no clue how to fix it and do not know what to connect them to, I do not see a designated spot for the leads to hook up to it undenieth, however, if I took a guess I would say maybe stand alone? The turntable works separately? And the arm gets hooked up to a amp for sound ? so maybe an RCA audio jack end or those microphone looking ends ?, I honestly am to deep with a bunch of equipment that I know nothing about and to try and look up this stuff is impossible, because the group that offers any info is not taking new people, to download schematics you need to have been previously registered lol. So any help would be appreciated from anyone at this point. I do not know how to hook up any of this stuff even if it all works perfectly or use some of it . Just trying to learn what I have how to use it and what it's worth also, if I should hold onto it or dump it... so many questions hahahahahaha!
 
Broadcast type tables were often sold with no arm, and the arm was added later. Leads probably are meant to land on a terminal strip which is missing for whatever reason. Not super hard to put one back in there.

Do you need someone to walk you through repairs?
In terms of value it’s hard to tell. How much of the stuff in the rack is labelled?

Also, the RCA sounds interesting.
 
photos of my Ch 12 before and after. It’s in 2 pieces. as having it as 1 solid piece would’ve just been impossible to lift. All made from salvage material. Base is 4 layers of some really nice ply I found and plinth is made out of 5/8” quartz. Got most of a Rega RB300 tonearm from a friend for fixing his Oracle Alexandria. Mounted with a Shure V15 type iv with a vn45he stylus then a Denon 103R (thought the Denon 103R would’ve been a big upgrade but I find running either is just as nice just different) Thing is dead quiet and I’ve accidentally left it running over a weekend without issue. These broadcasting tables were made to run days on end.

What did you end up doing with the MicroTrak? Its not a bad arm. I'm running one on my ROK.

Looks like you have plenty of room to put a second arm on there if you had any inclination to.
 
I first ran it with the microtrak but it had a crack on the arm where the cart slipped on. So I replaced with the Rega, i was thinking of putting on another arm but I’ve got 3 other tt projects going. First is a Rek-o-kut Rhondine Jr. L37 hopefully this guy will selllme his NEAT oil dump tonearm.. if not I have a profile ii arm. Then I have a Lenco L70 I’m rebuilding. Maybe I get lucky and find a sme somewhere for cheap. Then the systemdek tt which the profile ii is from. All between the 5-7 amps and guitar amps I’m working on and always a few diy/upgrade/build speakers I’ve got on the go. too many projects

They’re a funny case because they are like a slightly more agricultural cousin of ROKs more specifically the Rondine/B12 H, they seem to fetch a little bit more money despite that. The top plate for instance is sheet aluminium. The platter as well. The bearing design is similar but uses the drop out circlip thrust pad solution in a 2” diameter alu cylinder, rather than the closed end cast (iron?) Rek O Kut style.

This uses the 1/100hp Ashland D80KBU, whereas it seems the ROKs typically use the 1/200 variant, though ROK was apparently known for having loads of running changes as well. To that end I’ve seen at least three motor mounting schemes on these.

Currently planning on a plinth build not too dissimilar in format to the attached. The swivelling armboards in my case to be to the Micro Seiki equivalent fitment. I’m hoping to set myself up well for experimenting with different arm lengths and styles. I’ve started off by sourcing a Fidelity Research FR-24. Stretch goals include homebrew Schroeder or Supatrack. Love to try linear tracking but so many of the designs are ungainly.


Anyway, this will be the official spot for updates on this project as it moves along.
Hopefully I don’t blow up the value of these tables in the process, i think the going rate is about spot on for what they offer relative to what they demand, though sonics will be the final arbiter of that.

What is the black turntable in your 2nd picture?
 
For shits and giggles I did a coast down test. Cold oil in the bearing. I got four minutes and nine seconds from 33.3 down to stop.
