mcintosh book ?

Book Availability & McIntosh Dealers Question

ron-c said:
The price does not seem to be the issue as much as getting it right. No book can cover all aspects of the company, it would take many volumes but we hope to lay out the time line of the history in an interesting way. I have learned much about McIntosh while working on this and I doubt anyone will be disappointed.
As far as sales we have a huge pre order now. Our pattern for this was the Quad book but we will of course have many more pages.

Thanks,
Ron-C

The closest good McIntosh dealer to me is Tom Manley/Terry DeWick's store in Knoxville.

Do I need to place a pre-order with them or is McIntosh in Binghamton accepting pre-orders at this point ?

PS - FWIW, I stopped at the McIntosh dealer in Conover, NC, about a month ago and inquired about the book - No one there had any idea what I was talking about. IMHO, this store is not one of McIntosh's better retailers, but it's not the worst store I've been in this year - I stopped in a McIntosh store in Yorktown, VA about 6 weeks ago: They had exactly ONE (1) piece of McIntosh equipment on display, an MC207 amp, and they were using an Onkyo Integra A/V receiver as a pre-amp, but nothing else was hooked up to it, not even a single pair of speakers.

As for the rest of the store, virtually nothing was hooked up for a demo - They seemed to be an custom home-install only store.

This Yorktown dealer was a first: I've never visited a McIntosh dealer with only a single piece of equipment on display. :thumbsdn:

Surely the Tidewater, Virginia area can support a decent McIntosh dealer? McIntosh had one some years back, "Sound Approach," but the owner, Ray, died, and his wife didn't have the business savvy to run the store and it's morphed into a car stereo and window-tinting store.

ron-C "As far as sales we have a huge pre order now."

That's great, good for you all! Hope it sells a boxcar load.

A boxcar might hold them....

The book will be available from McIntosh dealers, Amazon, or any book seller who wants to sell it. McIntosh went into this with a firm commitment from our world wide distributors, hence the Prue order I mentioned. We will have enough for everyone so please be patient.

Thanks,
Ron-C

funny you shold mention that vinylrules,we just recently got a mcintosh dealer where i live in winnipeg ,manitoba.i was so excited to finally have one here where i live i was lterally jumping p & down being so excited.i'd figured i could get to finally hear some current mcintosh gear.i was quickly dissapointed as to when i arrived at the place they only had 2 pieces of gear on display.i don't know if you can chalk it upto being a just a new dealer or if theyre serious enough to become one?(they were however nice enough to follow up on all my questions regarding all the mc tube gear)hopefully when i go back in a few months they'll have more gear.

I have been proofing the text of the book but do not know what pictures will be used. We have way to much information for one book. All of the photos are finally gathered in one place for future use though.

i hope the book is both semi-technical and reads well. i'd enjoy reading how and why design decisions were made as product lines evolved over the years.

That's funny because I was just wondering the same thing today when I found the thread again and noticed that there was a recent post with the same question that was on my mind.
What say you Ron? How's the publish date coming? Any word yet? Seems that a bunch of us Mc fans are looking forward to this new book, and I have a birthday coming up and I always buy myself a present and this is one I'd love to own !!!

The book is coming along but slower than anyone would like. It will happen but no firm date yet.

Thanks,
Ron-C

I love this picture, it sure would make the front cover look nice!

We should see it in about seven or eight months. The book has been signed off on but must be printed and distributed. This will take some time.

Thanks,
Ron-C
