McIntosh MCP1500 power conditioner

I really like the Plitron Technology used in the MPC1500...good science and engineering :thmbsp:
Their approach sets their products apart from other isolation transformer units.

"An NBT transformer performs as a low pass filter with a
selected corner frequency. The system is based on two
principles, which involve an increase of the internal series
inductance, as well as the phase cancellation principle. Phase
cancellation is obtained by connecting a bifilared control
winding in contraposition through a capacitor. At low
frequencies the capacitor acts as an open switch allowing the
power frequency (50/60 Hz) to freely cross the transformer. At
high frequencies, the capacitor behaves as a closed switch.
Therefore, the magnetic flux of the two windings cancel one
another and full deletion of high frequency signals occurs. By
adjusting the series inductance and the capacitor, the passing
bandwidth of the transformer can be controlled"

This is combined with Series Mode Surge Suppression (all physics, no voodoo). Plitron markets its Power Isolation Units under the TORUS Power brand...however the MPC1500 offers additional power control features and the Mc Looks of course.

BTW : Torus Power will launch their AVR Range this Q.

Torus Power AVR series uses a micro-processor to monitor and control
incoming voltages. High current relays are utilized to switch taps on the
transformer primary providing seamless switching to the load when it is
necessary to adjust the output voltage.


Wouldn't it be great if McIntosh would decide on building an international version using this tech :scratch2:

Serge.......Thanks for the link back to your review of the PS Audio Power Plant Premier. Now that it has been in your system for almost two weeks, any new thoughts. Are you still using it with the amps and source components, or just the source units? Have you continued to use the Richard Gray products, or has the PPP replaced them?

Dan, I have all the gear except my subs plugged into their respective IsoZones. I am still evaluating it and don't want to introduce too many variables but here is my latest thought on it... http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=208171
 
Serge.......It sounds like a remarkable product that delivers clean, pure sine wave AC. I would be concerned about plugging two MC501 amps into a PPP at the same time the remaining source loads were plugged into the same unit. I know that I don't run my amps at full load current. I am aware that the amps will only consume peak current levels for short moments even when music is pushing 500 watt peaks, but when added to the continous loads of the source units I might be pushing the limits of a single PPP. Two PPP units, one for the amps, and one for the source components would seem necessary if I planned to connect a pair of MC501 to a PS Audio Power Plant Premier.
 
I don't run any amps through the PPP.

I saw your post where you stated each amplifier was connected to two RGPC's. Speaking strictly about the PS Audio product, is there anything to be gained using a Power Plant Premier with amplifiers? Are there disadvantages?

Interesting question Dan, in fact up on the Cape I will be using a PS PPP for each one of my Amps due the Cape's poor electric.

The PPP will hold the output to (+,-) .5 vac under full load. For me this is very important, right now the voltage swings (+,-) 5-6 vac when you turn on something that draws a fair amount of current; re: fax, plasma, amp.

Down in Florida, my voltage is rock steady (when the plutonium rods are on line). ;)

My tiny system up north MA6600, MCD500, MS750, Pioneer 60" Kuro is all going through a PS PPP & works fine. No dissadvantages.

Sound is suberb for being what it is. Hope that helps.

Dan, I didn't run into any problems with the Pole Pig at 700w, so I don't expect to have any problems with the 1500w rating of the PPP either.
