You're right. I guess I've never paid enough attention, and was thinking of the SME and VPI TNT-HRX, which are the only two TTs I've seen lately.
Good thing I don't do vinyl, eh?

I love the fact that McIntosh is addressing vinyl, but this new TT is sure not going to replace my GyroDec anytime soon.
What was the Mac design team thinking, anyway? :dammit::withstpd::dammit::withstpd::dammit: :withstpd: Maybe they don't need killin', but a good dope slap upside their heads would be a good thing.

I decide to merge the 2 threads regarding the turntable as they were both just mirrors of each other and I do not need to keep on top of both. Negative threads are a bummer to have to read repeatedly and one is plenty. This also killed the poll but we all know where this is going anyway.

Perhaps the platter is too tall but otherwise I like it. Maybe the glass panel could be narrowed, in height, a little too. The meter (I don't even know what it reports) doesn't bother me at all, in fact, it breaks up what would otherwise be an expanse of nothing. :yes:

Maybe they can raise the polished stainless steel platform an inch or two along with a cutout for the platter so it's recessed into the chasis somewhat. Then it wouldn't look so bad. Oh and anodize the platter black or make it out of glass. Illuminate the glass if you want but there simply must be less platter visible. A platter that size works well with many of the esoteric looking designs out there but not with this boxy component look. The two just don't go together.

I wonder why there is only one photograph of this thing when it was apparently at an audio show? I reckon it is a joke from Macintosh and the joke is on us while they make their 'real' turntable.

It's growing on me...
I was in total shock the first time I saw the CEDIA pic, but the more I oogle the aesthetics of the MT10, the more it's starting to grow on me. Granted, I agree with the majority that it's a bit over the top (and if the meter's mandatory it should be smaller), but then why should it resemble those other great 'tables from Avid, VPI, Rega, Clearaudio, SME, et al? Nothing wrong with being different, and it does match other McIntosh components if that matters at all to owners of all-Mac systems.
Being a prototype, there's always room for change...I'd like to see other tonearms be used as an option, and a shorter platter if all possible in either clear or black acrylic. Regardless to its overall looks, I bet it's built like a tank and outperforms many other 'tables in its class (I'm no expert, nor do I own anymore Macs at the moment, but how many clunkers has McIntosh ever produced in their illustrious history...really?).
Maybe Mac's first turntable should've resembled their classic tube amps (and first SS amps)...many members here have expressed the CEDIA pic to be a product of Photoshop manipulation. I'll let you be the judge...:scratch2:

Sad to say but your photoshop pic looks better than the one of the supposed TT,lets all hope its a photoshop deal.

Yeah, I Photoshopped part of an image of my ol' MC250 which was taken at just the right angle as the CEDIA pic. To tell you the truth, if McIntosh's MT10 looked like the vintage black and chrome chassis of old with the big chrome McIntosh logo on its faceplate, I'd save up for it in a heartbeat!:yes:
As much as I love big blue meters (like my prized MC7200), I feel it just doesn't belong on the MT10...at least in its current configuration. I reckon we'll see how this design plays out with the consumers.
