Oddly enough, there seems to be a much more positive response on that other Mac forum about the reduced knobs and buttons. Makes no sense to me.
Also, I didn't find a single post from anybody on that forum mentioning the labels on D100 and MA5200 not back-lit.
 
Well........... the folks on "that other Mac forum" seem to be more caught up in the 'new is better' part of McIntosh than over here.

Neither can I. Those systems are a PITA in my view- like the iDrive system BMW had used, which was less-than-popular with a lot of people.

I was about to say 'thank you - I stand corrected' but then found myself actually trudging through each page of 6 or 7 thread over there on the D100 and I still see no mention of it.
But thank you anyway - I hope you're right and I somehow missed that thread; it would be unfortunate if that huge crowd of high-end and 'newest is best' buyers over there have missed what I believe is a critical 'corner cut' of the D100's visual presentation and Mac tradition.

I can't post the links here as they get censored. There are a few reviews that mention it but they are spread out among a few different threads so they are difficult to find later on. I think the consensus is that it's a dumb move on their part as it's seen as the one negative but whether that actually stops anyone from buying it is another story. It bothers some people more than others. It bothers me because I feel cost-cutting in this price range is unacceptable. It's not like the D100 costs $500. There's a big difference between "entry-level" and "budget" in my mind. I'm more interested in the MAC6700 and MA7900 myself though and those are fully illuminated, including the headphone jacks. I'm also debating the C2500 should I decide to go the separates route.
