I recently got this 6500. It took an hour to clean the goo from the melted belt syndrome and another hour to figure out some other problems concerning the tone arm. It works fine now and it seems to be a fairly decent table. When I got it I assumed it would be a total lo-fi piece. Does anyone have any info on this model? Manufacturer, year etc?

No, not junk. This was made by CEC, who made tts for Hitachi and Marantz among others. I'd guess '79-81.
