Truthfully, I'm pretty thrilled that this thing is getting play time with so many AKers. I've moved on to different amps at home, so it feels good to "share the love."

Less than $200, and that's with some pretty decent parts. If you had to buy the tubes new, that might push the price up a bit.
 
You wanna see bad? I'll flip over my 6bq5 mono amp sometime and get pics of it. Its got flying junctions in there that are not going to any terminal strip. The wiring around the tone controls is especially bad. I didn't have any terminal strips handy, so I used what was already there and kludged the rest. The power supply is the original builder's layout and solder work from probably 40+ years ago. Original filter caps too. Its not what I would have chosen, but I was working with a chassis that had pre-existing tube sockets so my layout options were somewhat limited.

Is there a schematic available for this amp? I'm considering something similar using bits I have laying around.
 
Sam, I've built a couple more of these since this thread was started. I need to update my schematic with a couple of notes, but for the most part it is unchanged.

Here are the other two builds for reference. The schematic is in the v2.0 build:

Since you're using a three-wire plug, how are the other two wires connected? The white wire in the AC cord is supposed to be neutral, and black is the hot. The white wire should connect to circuit's ground. The green ground wire should go to the chassis. A 47k resistor and a MOV would connect circuit ground to chassis. Might be easiest to simply disconnect the green wire as suggested and make sure the circuit's "ground" side goes to the white wire.

Ah, the dangers of the interwebs. :)

But yeah, that ain't right. Don't connect the white wire to the circuit ground. And whatever you do, don't cross the streams!!
