Memoryes from high-school

Yep.. My dad was in the Air Force.. went to school on an air base in Bitburg.. we had a hell of a time...

1970-74 for me. Mostly good memories and lots of fun, especially my senior year. The only sad thing now, for me, is that I'm starting to lose some of my long time friends but my memories of them are strong.

Lots of embarrassing moments, too, during my high school years but they are best left untold. :D

1972-1975 for me. There were 500 in my class, a large suburban high school in Kansas City. Rode the school bus, which I didn't mind, except I hated standing out in the cold waiting for it. I thought that was a form of child abuse.

Started driving to school after I got my license. My dad got a company car just in time for me to inherit his car.

Was a mediocre student, I lacked direction. Didn't know what I wanted and nobody pushed me academically. My mother worked in the school district and I stayed under the radar, never got into trouble or skipped school. She would have killed me for embarrassing her.

After school I had a job in a grocery store that closed at 6:00 p.m. so that was perfect for dating or attending school sports activities.

For fun we cruised parts of SW Kansas City, TPed houses and just hung out. I enjoyed many parts of high school and have attended every reunion. I planned and ran my 35th year reunion.

The day after I graduated McCallie, I went in the Hospital to have my Wisdom Teeth removed...They were coming in bass-ackwards & stuff...I thought, if THIS is what they do to you when you graduate HiSkule, WTF do they do to you when you graduate College ?!?" & grabbed My Boys, just in case..

I was into cars and motorcycles real heavy. Had 4 different bikes and a 70 Chevelle SS396. I think many of us fell in love for the first time, I know I did. I was lucky to escape those years without being killed doing dumb ****. Luckily for me, fatherhood came along not long after and I had to adapt to providing for others. Straightened my ass out real quick.

Lets see...I remember yesterday plugging my laptop in to one of the floor plates, with holes to protect your cords. I also remembering someone stepping on the plate and cutting right through the power cord, causing a huge spark and a pretty large burn mark under the plate. Surprised that didn't trip the circuit breaker, which it should have since we put 120v through a ground line...

Oh, I'm still in high school and the laptop is required :/.

I had a 20 minute walk to the highway. Then an hour ride on a school bus. Psycological and physical abuse on the bus. More of that at school except adult teachers also delt out the abuse. Then back on the bus.

This was my high school life from 7:10am till 5:20pm every day. Fun!!!!

Man I miss those times!

I just signed up to a class site and one question was what was my most memorable memory a not well phrased question. I thought about it for some time before responding and it was the same as what I had written under my graduation photo in my yearbook. Finding and loving a certain lady. No, we did not marry but it did not lessen the quality of the experience. It taught me to look for a woman of certain qualities and what it feels like to really be a spiritual partner. I graduated in '66 and the not so happy memory was within a year the first of my classmates was listed as dead in Vietnam. I sometimes feel guilty as in '65 before Vietnam flared up I joined the Naval Reserves and that summer attended sub school and qualified on subs. It was a way to get into the Naval Academy where I wanted to go. I never got near Vietnam while friends who had no liking for warfare or the military were forced into going and paid for it with their lives.

My years were 70 to 74, the last was when we first moved here to MD.( Also an Army brat.) The high school we landed in was the "experimental" school- we didn't have bells to mark the class intervals, some of the teachers were bigger freaks than the students. We spent a lot of time in our cars, amongst clouds of smoke. I'm still in touch with some of those folks-it's amazing we remember any of that.

'75-'79 In Wisconsin. Decent student, B's mostly, worked in the "AV-dept" during study halls.. (go figure) No girl friends to speak of, but had an Oldsmobile with a Rocket 455 CID V-8.....:D sigh....

McCallie back then was strictly boys. Made it tough to find a galpal, & you KNEW you were about at the end of yr rope when a 9-yr old faculty daughter started lookin' TOUGH...(grin) The stretch from Christmas break til Spring was especially rough...Long time since you'd been home, long time til you went home, cold, dark, depressing, & Chattanooga RARELY had snows, just a cold drizzly rain...And you waded MUD everywhere.

High School was 35 years ago.
I remember when they relaxed the dress code, and you were allowed to wear jeans. That was a big thing.
Girls, Cars, Beer, Mischief, then hit the books ! LOL

My HS years were from 67-71 in suburban Philadelphia......................

The good:

Ran track, 100 & 200 + relays
Dated a 'hippie' chick

The bad:

At 5'6" & 115 pounds....got my a$$ beat like a drum on a regular basis.

Just thought about this one surfing on AK!

Did anyone take Drivers Education while in High School? I took it in the tenth grade. I loved the simulator driving. Great stuff.

Also, self taught myself to ride a motorcycle & got that license a few months after passing the drivers tests.
I still remember riding the motocycle & the trooper following me. He would blow his horn once for left turns & twice for right.

In these parts Driver Education programs have been cancelled for many years now. My GF's daughter had to take a Sears drivers program to get her license. My son only took the written part to get his. Times have certainly changed.

Hehehehehehe...I remember Driver's Ed...The ridiculous films, except for the "Crash" scenes-The school cafeteria invariably would schedule spagetti & balls that day...The school had a '67 Chevy Impala that by '73 had seen its better days. But the guy who was the Drivers' Ed guy, Mr Hubbert, was pretty cool & laid back...I remember bein' w/him in it on I-24, the interstate that ran thru Chattown, & he grins & sez to me, "Uhh..Sandy, ya think you're goin' a tad too fast ?!?" I looked down & I was doin' 85...I thought I was just keepin' up w/the traffic...Told him, "Geez, sorry Mister Hub..." & backed 'er down...He just chuckled...

Yes I took Driver's Ed with the simulator and we got to go out in driver's ed cars. We had 2 great teachers. Lots of patience!

Good stuff ole Sandy & Darcy!
Yea, my instructor was very nice too. We even drove by his house for him to check on things. Fond memories!

Kids today just don't know what they missed!

I remember a couple of hippie teachers in about 10th grade and the school board ran them off after a semester. Maybe they were sick of the place too and left on their own now that I think about it. :scratch2:
