Yeah, I heard about that a couple of hours ago. I wasn't a fan of MJ, but feel saddened none the less. He was truly a musical icon. Farrah Fawcett also passed away today. 2 of the 70s biggest icons passing on the same day.

FYI, there is a 3 page thread on this down in General Off Topic forum. So don't be surprised if your thread ends up getting moved or locked.

Wish he hadnt been so damn weird cause Thriller was an undeniable pop masterpiece but all his antics and lavish and bizar exploits far outshadowed any success. From like age 5 everyone preyed on him and thats gotta be a big part of his issues. Oh well, RIP

If you were a kid like me (13 when Thriller came out) it was a big deal with the dawn of MTV fueling the hype, the chicks loved him and I remember taking that Casette more then once to a girls baby sitting gig and had a bunch of young fun to that album wink wink.
I hate to admit it but the Jackson 5 "Victory" Tour was my first concert ever at Cleveland stadium, again at 13 it was a big deal.
Yup he was one weird dude for sure and one of those guys whos truely weird ways and wealth made me feel life isnt fair lol.

not to speak ill of the dead , but Michael died musically and creativly years ago.

I'm sorry for the Jackson's family lost.

cheers

I have to agree that Thriller was a true masterpiece-I own it on the CBS Master Sound half-speed master (sound unreal!), but it is also true that he really did musically die in the late 80's. But during his ride on the charts, he really was the KING, but all things must come and go, and we all shuffle off the mortal coil eventually, it's just a bit sad that he did it at such a young age.

Apparently he was planning a comeback tour and a new album. Don't know how well that would have went, I think that his scandals overshadowed his musical achievements/genius. In all honesty, who dangles a kid, much less their own, off a hotel balcony. As he got older, he certainly did get stranger. I still maintain that he wanted to be a kid, because from what I have read, it seems like he never got the chance when he actually was one. How sad is that?

I had a joke with my dad about the whole hyperbolic chamber thing...I guess that his plan of living forever didn't work out as well as he hoped (referring to Jackson). Even though he may be gone, the music will live on forever, and what music it was!

'Off The Wall' was his best work, at least to me. That music had groove and was before the hype set in.

RIP Michael, thanks for the tunes you left.

I am not a fan by any stretch of the imagination. I recognize that he made a huge contribution to music and popular culture. Micheal Jackson also tried to do some good in this world. He never had a chance at "normal" and his life was like a circus, and for that I am sad. Life gets more precious the older I get and understand how we are all diminished when talented artists die, even if it is not my "cup of tea."

I don't think is it necessary to be mean-spirited or judge what is fit for audio discussion as long as it is reasonable.

peace

DK

I must have the bum record then, I have it in EPIC.

Now is there any (not for sale nor will be in the future)difference in the sound quality between the different companys mastering?
And yes it does sound good. Its been a long time since i heard it last, before i bought it a few weeks ago.

And he was good during the early part of his career. I never much cared for his music during the mid portion of his career to the latter part.

I didn't really think that there was all that much hype over Thriller before it came out, but it was before my time. The only source I have to go by is my dad, seeing as he remembers the 80's quite well....sort of :smoke:. I guess that it is a toss up between the two albums, as they are both great pieces of music, but the thing that tipped Thriller in favor for me was the song "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)". That was a Quincy Jones riff, and no matter how many times I listen to it, I still think that it sounds as fresh as the first day that I heard it. :thmbsp:

What are you referring to? The half-speed master? If that is the case, I would have to say that it is well worth it. I have yet to buy a HSM that doesn't sound better than a standard pressing. More quality control goes into making a half-speed, and the lifespan/durability is more than 3 times that of a standard record. I stopped buying standard records after I heard "Dark Side of the Moon" from Pink Floyd (also a HSM), released by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs. It was a gift from my father, and is by far one of the best ones that I have ever received.

PS-Wait a while before you run out and buy one, the demand will go down.

Yes sir. Sometimes I need a little reminder that I need to keep myself in check :thmbsp:. It won't happen again from me .
