Mistubishi LT-30 Advice

I saw a LT-30 table at GW and pluged it in and it does nothing , no lights , can't hear anything running plus the tone arm looks to be about 3/4 of the way to the left . I tried to move arm and it does noy move , did not put a lot of force on it , no headshell . It looks to be in pretty nice cosmetic condition so is it worth picking up for future reference or ? that is if it is still there .

GW wants 40 for it and I don't kwow anything about it . Was thinking about going back tonight to get it .

Get it!

It's worth more than $40 in parts, even if you can't get it to work. Could be something as simple as a fuse.

Well I just got home with it , got GW to give me a discount because it did not work , kinda feel a little bad and a little stupid because after looking at really good in the garage I found the power switch ( who new ) so it does power up and platter spins but does have issues . The lift does not move and the tracking arm does not move either so guessing it needs belts , all I hear is maybe what sounds to be gears making a noise against each other , hard to explain . It even came with the owners manual .

Just took the bottom cover off and what I hear is the motor running , can see what is left of the belt . Looks like it is going to be fun trying to figure out how to get to the arm lift belt . I was looking on AK earlier before I bought this and saw some info on this table so going to find that thread again so hopefully I can figure it out .
 
Well worth the effort. I have two of the 30's and it's one of my favorite tables. The other thing that is probably an issue are the small lights/led's in the base of the arm. Had to replace mine in one table to get it to function properly. If they are exhausted the arm will not settle at the lead in groove and will just move across the LP without ever setting down. Keep us posted and I am certain we can help you through it. Vinyl Engine has the service manual if you need it.
 
WOW, what a major SCORE! And in GREAT shape too. We NEVER see stuff like that around here!! You could easily sell it as is for $400, I'd bet. Download the service manual from vinylengine, tells you exactly how to remove the tonearm (somewhat complicated, and not a bit obvious) enough to access the bottom of the TA in order to clean out all the goo left by the lift belt, in order to replace it. BTW, where did you order the belts from?

Remember to clean the rider wheel next to the lift worm gear for smoother tracking operation.
 
Nice! I think I paid $275 for mine, and I thought that was a deal. Here are a few tips:


  • Use small scraps of paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol on the tip of a small screwdriver to remove the old belt goo.

  • There are 3 bulbs under the tonearm base and 2 under the prism. They are different voltages and if you need new ones send me a PM.

  • The OEM headshell is on the lighter side, around 5g.

As someone else said, download the service manual and follow the instructions for disassembly. Post pics as you do your refurb and enjoy! It's a quality piece.
 
Thank's for the congrat's and offering of help , will probably be asking for that . I ordered the belts from turntableneedles.com , should be here next week .

I've found that Goof-Off, which is actually hexane (use ventilation, no smoking) works best on old belt goo. Lighter fluid (naptha, same warnings) also seems to work a good deal better than alcohol.
 
When I get this TT up and running how is it compared to my Technics SL-1600 , also any suggestions on a headshell for the LT-30 .
