Mitsubishi LT-30 restoration

bobinaz - great work. I am sure everytime you play and use this table it will be just that bit more satisfying since you know you completed the work here.

If you need a reference, here's what the wiring looks like from the factory.

Hello all,

I recently bought an LT-30 off of the auction site in very good condition. The seller packed it reasonably well, but the turntable did not operate when I unpacked it. I started looking around inside and discovered that the wire/thread that moves the tonearm has snapped. I've been looking through this thread and others to see if anyone else has had this happen; I haven't had any luck so far. Has anyone had to fix this before? Photos are attached below. Thanks!

Haven't seen that before.
The carriage should have been blocked against movement before shipping. The arm clamp was broken off on mine along with other damage when it was shipped to the prior owner. Poor packing.

Well that sucks. Sorry that happened. As 1980 said, the arm should have been blocked from movement.
Hope you find an easy fix.
Fishing line? Fly fishing line? Donor unit?
Maybe a piano/guitar string?
:dunno:
:lurk:

It's a shame it arrived damaged. Hopefully you'll find a fix or someone to fix it for you.

I was really lucky as I drove to Portland to pick up my LT-30 and a friend delivered the LT-5-V after he had repaired it.

Having recently acquired one of these fabulous machines I want to Thank Everyone for all the priceless information in this thread! Another LT-30 lives on because of it!!!

Greetings everyone,

Recently I acquired a Mitsubishi LT-30 linear tracking turntable off Ebay. This TT was on my short list of linear trackers (see thread http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=291585); however, I did not expect that the opportunity will surface that fast.

The LT-30 was cosmetically in very good conditions but the tonearm lift did not work; it also doesn’t have a bottom.

The seller followed my instructions for packing and she arrived undamaged. A scratch on a veneer and a couple of small scratches on a dust cover; otherwise, great-looking table. Now it needs to be fixed.

This thread will document the repair process with pictures, information about getting spare parts and how it all ends up.

Update: fixed! All what was required are one belt, six mini bulbs and ten or so hours of a free time.

Hi,

If you are still around I would love some help please.

Just got one of these TT's. It comes on, the Left size light works, the platter will spin and lock the speed. When I press the Cue or Start buttons I hear a sound/noise. It sounds like a motor trying to do something so maybe it is the belt you were talking about. I can't easily see it but I assume that's what it is. I opened the bottom and I can see one motor with a small belt and that is intact. The arm does not move onto the record but if I move it myself it will slide left and right and if I place it on the record I can hear that it is playing.

Does this sound like the belt or was it 2 belts in the tone arm that needs replacing ???

I see the photos you posted but can't follow what is what.

I appreciate the help.

Thank you.
AJ

^^^ I think you need to review the entire thread. There are plenty of pictures to illustrate the belt positions and replacement.

I agree, it's hard to troubleshoot with limited info and no photos. Also if you haven't done this you need to read the service manual from vinylengine.

If you put your location in your profile there could be someone local to you. Good luck!
