Mlb 2013

Wait, I know Doc's having his problems, but Lee's okay, isn't he? Did I miss something?

yes you did....Lee has been sub par, FWIW, 6 runs allowed through 5 innings over the weekend.

of the Big Phillies Three only Hammels looks like a true 'ace' at this time

The Yankees trade for Vernon Wells.

Hallelujah! Angels get out from under that contract (at least part of it), they don't have to deal with an extra outfielder, and Vernon can at least play somewhere where he's wanted. He was a bust for 2 years here, and the contract was way too big.

Helps for both teams.

Well it certainly helps the Angels, the Yanks must be getting pretty desperate. Should be fun to watch them this season:smoke:

Though it will only be an exhibition game with tons of player substitutions, the Phillies and Tigers will be on ESPN at 1 pm Eastern today. Cole Hamels and Justin Verlander are the starting pitchers. That's enough to get me to watch at least the opening innings.

I would think MLB could have come up with a better matchup to open the season on Sunday Night Baseball. Texas at Houston? Maybe due to it being played where it is t going to snow.

I know what you mean. As eagerly as I'm awaiting the start of the season, I doubt I'll bother with that game. Monday the Red Sox and Yankees play (both now also rans), but, the Giants and Dodgers that afternoon is the game I have my eye on.

The Nationals are the NL team to beat. They definitely captured my interest with their personnel and play last year. Nobody has a starting rotation like they do. Hell, their #3 starter (Jordan Zimmerman) may be better than many teams #1 (as may their #4 and #5, Haren and Detweiler). Their top 2 (Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez) will both be Cy Young contenders again this year. And then, of course, they have Bryce Harper, the most exciting player in baseball and a likely NL MVP candidate. He absolutely tore up Spring training.

My AL team, the Orioles, also look pretty good, particularly since the Yankees look so bad.:smoke:

I'll be heading to the Nats' game against the Marlins on Thursday. My wife and her best friend are going to the O's opening day on Friday. This area is blessed with 2 good teams and 2 good ballparks - finally.

Finn, sounds like a lot of fun this summer. I like the Nats, though my heart belongs to the Cardinals. The announcers rave about the quality of young arms this year, but I wanna see it before I believe the hype. Carpenter is out again this year, while I love what he has done as a Cardinal I wish he would retire and free up that money to fill a weakness or two.

Bryce Harper of the Nats has hit 2 home runs in his first 2 at bats of the season. Hopefully, he'll hit 2 or 3 more dingers before this game is done.

Harper is one of those highly tounted kids who actually has the skills and work ethic to be a star. I have seen lots of duds from most of those young phenoms. I think it will be a good year to be a Nats fan. And probably for years to come. Last year would have been if they weren't so stupid with Strasburg.

I've seen the instant highlights of this while watching what might be the least inspiring Red Sox at Yankees game I've ever seen. The lone exciting aspect of it is the Boston rookie outfielder, Jackie Bradley Jr., who looks like he will be another sensational young player. Harper and Mike Trout had sensational rookie years. It doesn't look like Harper is going to suffer a "sophomore jinx", and I doubt Trout will either. The enthusiasm the new young stars bring to MLB is what keeps it fascinating. I bet Harper could run through a cinder block wall right about now, and, good for him.

I've been tuning in the Yankees game during commercials on the Nats game. The announcer said that Yankee stadium was not an official sell-out for opening day. The horror.:D

OK, here I am. I was thinking about kickin' kneeOhFight's butt, for starting this thread, but decided against it, in the interest of being a good sport. Just because I started baseball threads here at AK every year for the last 30 years, doesn't necessarily mean I have rights to start the thread every year. :scratch2: :D ;) I'll settle for my Mariners kickin' all your teams' butts instead. :D OK, I'm getting warmed up for the annual first game of the season against our division rivals, the Oakland As, so I needed to talk some trash, obviously, to set the mood. ;) At least we're not playing in Japan, like last year, so we'll get an even start on the season. :thmbsp:

Burnett has 10 strike outs already and we are still losing to the cubs lol!!!! Ahhhh another year of Pittsburgh baseball yippie!!!

Atleast the pens are doing well maybe they will win the cup

I see Boston has nearly finished beating up the Yankees too. Our game doesn't start till about 7:00 our time, and it's just past 1:30 now. :boring: We had the 2nd best record in Spring training, so I figure we have at least a decent chance, in the regular season. ;) EDIT: I take that back, 3 more runs so far for Boston, in the 9th. I guess they LIKE beating up the Yankees. ;)

Boston didn't let up on the depleted Yankees, nor will anybody else they play in the rest of the season. I'm listening to NYC sports radio right now, and they are really getting lambasted there, too. They looked pathetic today, and they are going to hear all about it.
