Moderators and Administrators, Would it be Possible to Add This Feature to AK?

Would it be possible to add a real "block" feature to AK? One where the thread originator can actually block disruptive members, especially those posting rude and abusive content (with perhaps the main goal of shutting down their thread) from being able to post on their threads? Too often there are those, and typically the same individuals, that do this out of spite, malice, or simply personal dislike. At times, these people then "celebrate" in other threads that they got the "offending thread" shut down through behavior and reporting.

A prime example of the above: One of my threads, which had been active, strong, and very polite, since the summer of 2022, was shutdown in the last few days because of one member, who has been on my "ignore list" for nearly two years, decided to post a great many rude and/or obtuse messages. Why come on a vintage thread an do this? I have a deep seated suspicion that he did this with the express purpose of getting it shutdown. He is also one, that I have seen seemingly gloating about this modus in other threads. This individual has also done this to other people as well with whom he has philosophical disagreements with concerning this hobby (and perhaps a personal dislike for). It is a shame that such behavior is occurring. A real "block" feature would solve such issues.

Hello To Muenchen (eine von vielen kleinen und unbedeutenden Vorstaedten von Bad Nauheim ).... Yes, I too try to make this forum, which I love, a warm, cosy place. The thread in question had frank discussion; polite behavior; a wonderful, warm, exchange of ideas; sharing of impressions; and not least was helpful to some who said it even changed their opinions. Then this person came in, and started quasi-berating folks for their opinion, calling them names. This was the fifth or sixth thread of mine, that he had done this with. Considering that the thread originated in the summer of 2022 and that he has been on my "ignore list" since that time, it appears to me that his abrasive posts were very deliberate and calculated aimed at having the thread closed as they contributed absolutely nothing (and other members told him that as well).

Tasha this sounds pretty much like bullying (mobbing). Report that Zero to the moderation so that he might be banned.

If anyone wants to add someone to their ignore list fine, whatever. That's what it's for.

But, I think "canceling" needs to be left to moderation.

Sounds like you don’t understand how Blocking works.

I believe I do in the context of the 1st post.

Ignoring someone is one thing, preventing them from posting is a different matter, and should be left to moderation.

in the XenForo software, Mods and admins have the ability to toss someone out of a forum, members do not.
Ignoring keeps them out of your sight, but not out of your site, so to speak. I get that.

If someone is trolling a discussion you are in, please report it to one or more mods.
There are members who may be just 1 complaint away from action - so we do need to know to help.

Ignoring someone is one thing, preventing them from posting is a different matter, and should be left to moderation.

Blocking somebody doesn't prevent them from posting. It just prevents them from posting in the person's thread that blocked them. Common functionality on some social media sites.

That sounds like preventing them from posting to me.

Bear in mind technically it is not "your" thread. It is AK's thread.

If the person has violated the site rules then moderation has the option to take action. But, people should not be able to block any other person from posting in any thread if they are not breaking the site rules, just because they don't like the message. That's what ignore is for.

I like to think that threads I create are 'My' threads in general discussions regarding ownership - but with a higher authority, namely AK mods/admins having final say.

I am rather reluctant to mention names, but in a thread I started titled "Confessions...", from 2022 for example that just got closed, it is individuals on my ignore list, that show-up together, and start arguing with other members there. That thread was calm, respectful, and informative, until these members appeared. I don't have many folks on my ignore list, but they always seem to come in a group. When they arrive, they are typically rather disrespectful to others, and shortly thereafter the thread is closed (or deleted). I have seen in other threads (or was made aware of) that some of them have mentioned that they "reported" this and that, to have a thread closed that they did not agree with, its contents, or the opinions of other members posting there.

Yes, I do agree. If you author a thread, you do own the intellectual contents of that thread. Although, AK does own the thread. I also refer to the threads I author as "my threads", as that would be the natural thing to do.

Just PM a moderator the names. You don't publish fools in the open.

While I understand the frustration behind Natasha's request, it would be akin to giving moderator powers to each and every member. Natasha, if someone is trolling you in a thread you've started or anywhere else, please report them right then and there, as Heather said, many times someone doing such trolling is a "frequent flyer" to the reporting system and there are incremental punishments that will be triggered by repeated offences. None of this happens in a vacuum; first comes a warning, then a threadban, then various full board suspensions until finally a permanent ban is applied, and by then the offending poster right well knows why they've been banned and have been given ample opportunity to "lose the 'tude" and behave themselves before being uninvited to the forum.
