Money Order Scams?

Likewise.

You're not even a subscriber so you cannot post anything for sale here on AK.

Second, I still wouldn't give a flip as you've shown to be the kind of person I wouldn't deal with. You've become only the second person to elevate themselves to my blocked list.

I wonder if the OP completed his deal.

Not completely, I'm in the process of packing and shipping the amp but the part of the deal pertaining to this thread is complete. The buyer emailed a picture of the money order and the certified mail envelope he was using prior to sending to me. I emailed him when I received the USPS Money Order to confirm I had received it. I took the money order to the post office to cash, but they didn't have enough cash at the time. I asked the clerk if the money order was legit, and he said it was. I took it to my bank to cash and asked them if they ever had any issues with postal money orders. They said they have never had any issues with USPS Money Orders. The USPS MO has several security measures, including a holographic strip and are very difficult to counterfeit.

As a side story, last year my wife and I paid for her son to move to another state. The mover requested half payment up front and half upon delivery. They accepted credit card payment for the first half but would only accept cash or USPS Money Order for the final payment. I asked why and they responded that, other than cash, the USPS Money Order was the only form of payment that the driver could cash immediately and could not be pulled back.

I'm completely happy with the transaction and wouldn't hesitate to take another USPS Money Order for payment. I regret that this thread became so contentious. I understand that everyone has their own opinion and reasons for them, and I respect all opinions.

My personal perspective is that I try to trust my fellow human beings. I have bought and sold a fair amount of equipment, mostly in person. I have welcomed quite a few people into our house to demo and purchase gear. I have also been invited into a lot of other people's homes to demo gear, some of whom had very expensive setups. I have never had any bad experiences and, in fact, ended up becoming friends with quite a few people who I have encountered. (Chicagoland guys, you know who you are. Love you guys!).

My wife is always suspicious of strangers coming into our house. I always take precautions with strangers and do respond to or invite anyone into my house who seems suspicious.

As I said above, I respect everyone's perspective and opinion and I'm thankful for all the replies to this thread. I will continue to keep a positive perspective regarding fellow audio folks (with precautions, of course) and hope I am able to meet more friends and acquaintances through this hobby.

I am happy to hear everything went well for your transaction. These days it's best to approach the unknown with caution and reach out as you did in this thread. As many have stated, myself included, how safe the USPS money orders are, you definitely found a good out of your local area buyer willing to take a chance with that transaction. There are far more good honest decent people in this world than bad.

For anyone who presents a blanket dismissal of the ease and security of a transaction using the USPS money order, well, I value that opinion as much as I'll value today's dinner tomorrow.

Thanks for the follow up. Glad it went well. You're the kind of person I'd be happy to do business with.
It's a shame that many times skepticism enters into our dealings with others.
I used to trust others and take them at their word but now days that's not always prudent or safe.
I say what I'll do and do what I say. Being self employed in a small town reputation means a lot.

That's great, etc., etc., but I still wouldn't accept a foreign money order from you.

Give it a rest. I won't take any foreign payment except PP or Venmo balance. A bank check can be stopped in seconds and still be sent once purchased as can an e transfer. CCs can be reversed.. My granddaughter works for USPS and there is no safer payment instrument that is convenient to get, secure and universally accepted. If you have an issue and won't accept what people say here, stop responding with your tinfoil hat blather and pay how you want. This is AK, not a community of theives working to steal your money. Just offering prudent advice

Wow, pleasant post, it's great you took the time days later to chime in and offer that up. I don't have a tinfoil hat, thanks, I just don't accept foreign money orders.
You having a bad day, or just annoying as a rule?

^^^ just gotta have the last word on a much-beaten dead horse, eh? Add 1 to my blocked list. You've contributed NOTHING of value on this thread but your opinion, giving 0 credence to the preponderance of positive anecdotes re: USPS (& other) money orders. Ya don't want 'em, don't take 'em, reduce your (potential, actual or imagined) customer base. Pretty sure I'm not alone feeling this way. We don't give a shiite, you can't access our transactional platform (bartertown) anyway. Adios, amigo!:bye:
