Ooh, Thank you setup1. Yes indeed, I still very much enjoy listening to this wonderful Tru-Sonic Horn which sounds especially lovely using my 2A3 SET (3.5 Watts) Mono Amp.

didn't even know I was listening to mono, recently. just listening to good tunes. for some reason, i hit the mon/ stereo button and the tune didn't change. it was mono. now i hit the button and notice that some songs do sound better in mono, as the sound is even from both spkrs and not mostly from just one.

Won another pilot amp on eBay
now I’ll have 2 the 2nd one is going to need some work but the good thing is I have a working unit I can compare against.

Glad to see this thread started. Was gifted a truckload of vinyl from a friend and later found a Thorens 134 to restore, got it going nicely with a mono cart, but having trouble with the tonearm hanging up when it contacts the auto stop. I also found a basket case Fisher 500 that I hope to get going and could use help sourcing tubes.

Hi jo, it sounds WONDERFUL! The 12 or so Watts from the PILOT (el-84) Mono Amp just makes the 4.0 SING and come alive!

KT, the FISHER 500 Mono Receiver (which I own) is a wonderful sounding Mono Tube Receiver and well worth getting up and running!

I guess I wasn't a good boy this year. Santa did not bring the EL37's that I wished for.
never heard of El37. seems to be an impressive tube:

That’s actually a lot of wattage for a tube, pretty slick!!

They're basically an earlier version of the EL34, which itself can deliver 100W in push pull pairs. Once the EL34 became popular, the EL37 all but disappeared from new designs.
My mono system is mostly Bogen:
Integrated amp: DB130
AM/FM Tuner: R660
Turntable: B61 (w/Denon DL-102 cartridge)
DIY Speaker: University 312 in a University designed cabinet
I need to restore my Ampex 960
And my FM50 tuner and RR501C receiver.
