Monolith on Sale

Last night, I made my first intro post and mentioned I was looking at subs to go to 2.1. I had it narrowed down to a few of the 'bang for the buck' models, but one went on sale today and I went for it. Thought I'd share if anyone is interested. The Monoprice Monolith 12" THX Certified is on sale on Amazon for $634.30. This sub competes with the likes of SVS SB-2000, Rythmik, Outlaw & Hsu 12 inchers and it is a significant price drop.

I thought about DIY, but I never have the patience for doing the finish on electronics - once it works, I want to use it! Not so good for living room use.

Yes, Monoprice has blown reviewers away by stepping in to the HiFi marketplace with a few select products. It's an impressive sub (even for Martin-Logan fans). It beats all of the subs I named above. Also interesting is their pure tube amp: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=27222

Woah a 12 comparable to my 15” same rms how can xmech be so high if xmax is 18mm?
Sounds like a beast my sub is sealed tho , vented has more bass at tuning point and higher spl .
My old si ht 15” I got a thread on it, has 25mm xmax or so and forgot xmech around 50mm.
This mono price sounds just as good or better, my finish was nicer but got damaged moving it to a friends house my dad forced me to move it then 6months later I brought it back. It damaged one of my towers actually had to fix the leg .
I’d say go for it !!! What’s new price ?2k?
Sounds like a beast of a 12” model !

I was initially looking at sealed subs because my primary use is music (though, I'll be cranking the movies now), but this one was also in the running because of performance per dollar. It has the "plug the holes" version of sealed - if you read the review link, you can see how it tested with both ports open, one closed, and both closed. I imagine I'll be using it with both ports plugged - but we'll see. A friend of mine has one - so I've heard it and it is amazing - he is more of a home theater user, though.

Nope $634.34! - that's why I jumped on it and bought it yesterday. They actually make a 15" model with an amp twice as big that goes for $1300

The 15” looks like a generic spinoff of the pb ultra? https://www.svsound.com/products/pb16-ultra
Look similar designs. Can get two monoprice for one tho .
What’s thx certifying do?
Can’t some diy do thx just no one pays to certify one .
I don’t understand there prices wouldn’t two 12” for 1600 be more value then a 15” for $1300.
Wish you could buy two 15” at a discounted rate.

Yeah, I was debating between the Mono and SVS, then he sale made the decision for me.

You're right there is no magic in THX, seems to be just performance standards-but they do the certification, so it has some guarantee of real-world performance, rather than just adspeak. Some on THX in this review: https://www.audioholics.com/subwoofer-reviews/monolith-10201d-12
