I cant believe only 2 people noticed a diff? what they hell, are they making them monster cables out of recycled coathangers?

Saltwater,

"NONE" of the 12 people could tell a difference.....That is what the article says......

After this article, I am buying coat hangers stocks....:)

I have a couple of people in my family that are squarely in Monster / Bose territory.

Mature, rich (relatively), and not willing to research a thing.

Series resistance per foot between a coathanger (steel) and typical speaker gauge wire (copper) would be quite measurable. I wonder if they level matched between them? If the run was enough length, I would think there would be a slight output drop on the coathanger vs. the speaker wire. If the levels were matched though.....

I read the fark version...

"Of the 5 blind folded, only 2 guessed correctly which was the monster cable."

It goes a little more in-depth than the link above, about 150 more words from the people who set it up.. What speakers, abx switchbox, Volume levels were set at 75 Db at 1000K Hz.

anywho its a better read.

Interesting, a beaten to death topic beaten back to life.

Where's the discussion regarding termination?

IMO, whether it's speaker cables or line level interconnects, the type, material quality, and application quality of termination is a far more critical factor, and is more likely to render audible differences than the wire itself.

FWIW, the article in the OP reads more like a carefully written rant than an objective revelation.

Just my .02 y'all understand............................

Wonder what the RFI/EMI resistance is for the presumably unsheilded coathanger? I'm guessing it's not very good :scratch2:.

Bob Crites (BECtoo) posted this pic on the Klipsch Forum...

They work good. Listening to them right now. Measure about 0.125 ohms per coat hanger. Makes that about 0.25 ohms for the pair. A bit high for long runs or high power. Fine for the squawker or tweeter though.

The only reason I use monster connects is because they were free.. got them after a trial about another company trying to infringe on their packaging.. don't know the outcome, other than I got the exhibits :D

Other wise, I've used anything that will pass current, and have never been able to hear what was good and what was crap.. electrons are electrons, and they flow.. that's all that matters in my eyes..

BTW.. could two really tell what was the Monster Cable?.. or did they just happen to get lucky and guess correctly?

I would think on a short run (inches) not much of a difference or problem if both are a proper gauge wire .
After all inside of most units a solid core wire is used up to final output .

What wrong with monster cable ? I'm still using the first 100' bought in 79.
And still sounding good .:music: I'm going to leave the coat hangers in the closest .

OK. So. We take a coat hanger and straigten it out. Then we get rid of any coating by running it through a blow torch. While we're doing that, we use 4% silver solder to tin the wire. And....

8 gadge, silver solder coated grounding bus-bar. Sell it for $5 an inch. :D We can probably pay some kids to do it for a buck a foot.... :smoke:

This hobby is just getting too strange. :scratch2:
