More feel-good news about vinyl record sells in 2015

I would imagine that those figures are only a fraction of the total sales of vinyl records. I wonder how many used records were sold.

Strange but true. I have only bought 3 "New" pressings this past year, but all were reissues/remasters. Still the overwhelming majority I buy is used, and from dollar thrift store finds and garage sales. Likebike23, I would guess over the past year, 70 LP's were used, 3 were "New".

Maybe, but every year these numbers get better and there are always those who say it's peaked. It will never be what it was obviously, but growing is always good. And if the numbers are correct, 1988 was a long tiime ago.

One observation about this resurgence, older LP's are being destroyed more often than I would like to see. I see many posts on FB about packaging of same. Some as noted by the OP's on FB were a very rare copy or in very good condition. It's the sign of the times with easy shipping all across the skin of this planet. The shape of an LP is the perfect storm for shipping. Growth in the front lines shrinking in the vintage line.

In a statement, RIAA chairman and CEO Cary Sherman cited the numbers as "proof that some fundamental market distortions are at play." Sherman added that "some technology giants have been enriching themselves at the expense of the people who actually create the music."

This has always been something that has bothered me about streaming, the amount of money going back to the artist themselves. I believe streaming services themselves will come upon a day of reckoning about this. I know it is similar to how the FM radio worked, but back then someone heard a song and went out and bought the lp. Now nobody is doing that because it is all becoming on demand. I will probably get some flak on this but that is ok, just stating an opinion is all.
