Most over-rated and under-rated bands

thanks for all the responses. I can gather that modern "Pop" isn't well liked. I do agree with the Chameleoms comment, of course. They influenced many bands that went on to make it big. (relatively). And I just picked up a Brandos record last week, they were mentioned.
The Ramones were popular, I think, because it proved you don't have to be a musician to play. And that spawned a wave of rock music that is still alive. Ex. being Green Day. Not really musicians IMO. But that doesn't mean they don't have some redeemable traits. Ya just gotta look real hard.

I like Rush's music, I just don't like the vocals (Getty Lee?), If I could get their stuff with no vocals, it would be OK.

Same for Guns 'n Roses. Music great, vocals not. Sweet child of mine and Dancing with Mr. Brownstone (sic) would be great without vocals.

No offense intended, just those 2 bypass the ears and irritate the brain directly! :)

Anybody else whose music you like but could skip the vocals?
 
PLEASE do not flame me, but IMHO, the Beatles are WAY over-rated, along with Lynyrd Skynard, and Eric Clapton. Sorry, guys, just don't think that they are all that great. I don't mind listening to them, but I have almost never played them myself....
 
Overrated- all popular music that I don't like.

Underrated- all music that I do like.

What qualifies as being over or underrated is purely subjective, so I know that what I said comes off as elitist, but that's kind of the point, to get across a point (or something). ;)

I am joining the chorus on two of the overated bands

Stones: A lot of albums recycle material from their 60's hey day
Grateful Dead: Fans claim they are not a commercial band-Truth they could not sell records and they toured all the time which is the way a band reaallly makes big bucks......

Underated:

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers;Despite the recent Superbowl appearance/recognition Tom Petty and Co have been producing some amazing records for close to 30 years.

In their brief moment in time......The Housemartins

There's maybe a song or two that I don't mind, and Freebird ain't one of them. Gag me with a spoon... :D
 
Please don't do anything...unnatural...to me for this:

Most overrated:

1. The Eagles
2. Led Zeppelin
3. The Beatles
4. The Rolling Stones

Most underrated:

1. Kansas
2. Genesis (Gabriel era)
3. Toad The Wet Sprocket


Keep in mind that I don't dislike any of the bands I listed as overrated, but they just never stuck me as particularly special. YMMV (and, if you're like most people, they probably will).
