Motor sounds...

Man, you can just tell what kind of wild animal that H2 is. It looked as if the front end was trying to come up, even under moderate throttle. Power band that came on like turning on a light switch!

Regards,
Gordon.

I owned an H2 until it was destroyed by a station wagon (with me on it).

Denco chambers, flat-slide Mikunis, and a 4" extended swing arm.

Brakes sucked. Handling was worse.

But in a straight line, at around 90 hp, in the early 1980s it was still pretty darn fast.

An 11-second street bike with 1970s technology was a handful.

I couldn't afford a new GS-1100G, any BMW or Ducati, and that Laverda was just a dream. So it was Japanese bikes for a long time. Thankfully they made better bikes than the H2.

Well, if we're talking electric motors- how about a REAL BIG electric motor?

THAT is an unmistakable sound.

Regards,
Gordon.
Trying to find something on the Coast Guards Polar Class Ice Breakers main propulsion motors I have worked on. The housing has a regular size door to walk into the guts of the motor.

OK a bit off topic but I love the sound of connectors and other things that click together, whether it's a motorcycle side cover, OBD2 connector or headlight connector, etc, etc. I just love that sound! I was thinking of doing a song with all the instruments being the sounds of components being plugged in, twist locked, switched on/of, etc.

Most of us are audio and sound fanatics.... some of us are also into motorsports and motors that do work for us. Over the years, I have loved the sound of certain ones, I will post a few here. Please add your favorite motor sounds :)

Third, the Ducati 90 degree v- twin
Mmm...Dry-clutch. I had a 900SS and it took a bit to get used to that sound ("no, it's not broken").

I have been in many main engine rooms with engines like that. The spare connecting rods hanging on the bulkheads are pretty cool.

From my POV the big electric motors on the Polar Class ice breakers are more impressive. ;)

Them little gas turbines may have something to with that!

Always wanted a ride on one of these.

Not as a rescued person, as a passenger for fun.

The sound of Woody Cooper's Bad 8 - a rare TR8 coupe with a built up 5 liter Rover (Buick design) aluminum V8 and some go-fast parts in place.
Woody is the owner of TWS Motors (The Wedge Shop) in Taunton, MA and sold us our 1980 Poseidon Green Metallic TR8 ...

LM2500 little  smallest I worked on was the APUs on LCACs.

And I was commenting on the big engine you posted. I have been on the cats walks of ones bigger than that ;)

Didn't work on them, but have seen them with man-sized doors in the valve covers. In the neighborhood of a 50,000 hp diesel.

Smallest gas turbine I worked with was right around 1200 hp. Gas compression duties.

How about a P-51`s flyby with that great sounding throaty growling Merlin`s 16 cylinders asking how much more do you want from me, just ask.
Some pilot in one, for several months, flew~ 1000 ft. over my house to towards a small nearby regional airport, I`m guessing, around mid morning, and always flew the same path back late afternoon.
Unforgettable sound coming from the sky !

To put it in perspective - here is a video of the Green 1980 TR8 before we bought it ...
