Mouse balls?

Speaking of balls...

Ever hear the joke about the Texan who went to eat at a Kosher deli resturant while visiting New York?
After spending a bit of time struggling with the menu, he figured that it would be best to begin the meal with soup, as it was a cold, wintery day.
Before ordering the 'Motzah Ball Soup', he asks the waiter, "Do you all make dishes with any other parts of the motzah?"
 
Here are some shock mounts that would work. They a milspec designed mostly for radios used in a mobile setting. They are cheap and, depending on which model, can each support from 4 to 50 pounds.

Wow! That could work even better. Here's what I'm gonna do:

Get 4 of these, probably the buck fifty ones, 4 mouse balls and construct quick and dirty plywood bases then subject each one to the "glass of water vibration test" which is to place them on the hood of my mother's 92 Ford Escort, and see what happens to a glass of water on the hood vs on the stand.

Gimme a couple of weeks to get everything together.
 
I was scrolling with an optical trackball when I read this, and removed it to examine it more closely. (Ever tried to get a track's legs apart? Harder than a mouse's, until you realize the thing has a hole in its bottom, and if you stick your finger in the hole and push...)

It definitely isn't a rubber-coated metal ball (although earlier non-optical mouse ones might have been). It is also not soft/compressible; in fact, it seems to be a hard, inflexible plastic. I doubt it would dampen anything much in the way of the vibrations that affect TTs. So I'd suggest anyone looking into trying this stick to old-style mouseballs, NOT optical trackballs!

I'm not sure anything will survive a Ford Escort! Mind as well give up now.
 
Yes, the balls in mice are rubber coated steel bearings.. I doubt they would do much to deaden a TT since the vibrations will travel through and along the ball...
