Mouser shipping price glitch/account hold craziness

So I'm waiting for a mouser order, it's over a week, so I go to their website and see that my account is on a credit hold on a paypal paid for order. Turns out they are disputing an order I placed in August of 2025. I paid that order via paypal as well which as you know, you can't even pay less than the order total. The shipping on my paypal receipt is around $13 which seems normal, they are claiming the shipping was actually $40 and I owe them the difference.

So I put these same parts into a cart today and the UPS ground shipping comes up as $39 which seems crazy. I start removing the heavier items to see if that is what caused the issue and finally find the part that created this issue. A single 4 gram tube of heat sink grease mouser # 567-120-SA creates a shipping cost for UPS ground of $36.46!!!

Clearly it didn't have this insane shipping cost at the time of my order, but somehow their system went back over a year, recalculated the shipping costs using this obvious new glitch and they locked my account until I agreed to pay this difference. After being on the phone for over an hour, being shifted to different departments, I finally talked to someone who agreed this was a glitch in their system and released this credit hold.

I have to wonder if this sifting back through old invoices is some new AI powered thing, and likely most commercial accounts would just pay the past due invoice they were sent. This honestly makes me hesitant to purchase from them in the future and the person who sorted this out said "You need to be taking a screen shot of every order before you pay to have evidence if our system changes the invoice AFTER you pay it."

Just a heads up, it appears if you order from mouser you now need to create a folder, and screen shot/save every order invoice before you hit pay to protect yourself from their system changing the invoice in the future and them trying to bill you for it.

Here are screen shots of two shopping carts, one with this 4 gram tube of heat sink compound and one without. Look at the difference in shipping!!

It does that to me as well. Jumps from about $9 to $39. May be the plastic vial is more prone to breakage or leakage so gets a hazardous material surcharge. Just a speculation.

Funny, I just added the 8oz jar of this which costs $29 and the shipping dropped back to $8.49. May be some sort of bug in the shipping calculator. Unless this can be resolved, I would buy the 8oz jar and save the $10.

This issue isn't buying this item, it's that they retroactively attached this glitched shipping charge to a 14 month old invoice over a year after the sale/checkout and are demanding I pay it/locked my account.

sorry but this is an absurd thing to even have to worry about. Seems to me if they invoice it and accept payment, thats it. Any screw-ups are on them.
Yup, I was like "I need to do what??" And I literally also had the paypal itemized invoice with the "at checkout" shipping listed.

Hopefully in 14 months I don't get contacted to pay for additional shipping for yesterdays order. Crazy.

Sorry this happened to you. :(

Yeah, I started taking screenshots of every transaction. I have had issues with car parts (from supposedly reputable online dealers). If you don't have ALL the information — especially the specific order number and the order date — for each individual purchase, things can get hairy and waste your time. I have eventually gotten some initially screwed-up orders, months later. Sometimes, still get the wrong parts. I never order from those sites again. I don't care how good their reputation used to be.

I even take screenshots of food orders and other miscellaneous things. Yes, I have gone to pick up the food orders, only for the stupid place to have somehow lost the online order.

I don't think this is solely an AI issue. This is largely human incompetence.

ooh, i can relate to that.

man, i gotta take photos of every item i buy at kroger (biggest grocery store chain in the memphis area and closest to my house) in its place sitting behind the price tag on the shelf. you see, they put sale tags on things and dont change the price on the scan, and they even put bogus price tags on items that are not on sale. last year, 13 trips in a row, i busted kroger stealing from me. its alway a big hassle, i always get pushback from staff. one is an accident, over and over is a scam.

Digital shelf labels.

These are stores I no longer shop at.

Parts Connexion is pretty good, they pay any additional fees. Super fast shipping and good prices.

That said, mouser is a joke if they want to charge you form over a year ago.

They may be slower (perhaps due to the cross-border issues), but I have not had any problems with mixed-up or wrong orders from them.

I've had good interactions with Stephanie (sales) at Parts Connexion regarding order updates and parts availability.

obviously weight isn't the only factor, box size affects shipping cost as well

Mouser packs items in boxes that are twice the size that Digikey uses for the same types of parts

they also double bag parts for no apparent reason and often tape the inner labeled zip-lock bag that is annoying and completely unnecessary

Digikey uses shredded paper for packing, Mouser uses bubble wrap, and lots of it because the boxes are too big. I used to save the stuff but it just piles up and is not recyclable so it ends up in the trash

Mouser's packing department needs some training and standards, no wonder their shipping costs are demented

while I'm venting, both Mouser and Digikey need to standardize their labeling of plastic zip-lock parts bags. I'm guessing most of us keep the parts in the bags since it has all of the pertinent information

with the zip-lock at the top of the bag, the label should be in the upright position, sometimes they are upright, sometimes they are sideways, left or right and sometimes upside down, wtf?

Yea I like Parts connexion, never had any issues with them. Well.... One time they did send me like 60-70 resistors all of different values in one ziplock bag, causing me to have to go through each one and figure them out, usually thy are labeled..

I have had good luck buying directly from Digikey. Electronic tools, especially. Pretty darn fast delivery, with good shipping updates.

They have a good supply of stuff like Mills wire-wound resistors and Solen PPE caps.

In New Jersey...that should be reported to The Department of Consumer Affairs. They have the power to suspend and revoke a business license.
Better Business Bureau has no teeth...Consumer Affairs does.
