Moving magnet cartridge with MC input

This thread is baffling.

How would reducing the input impedance make an MC input more MM friendly?

Exactly.

Much less resistance? Less than what?

Does the cartridge see any kind of secondary resistance? :dunno:

Am I the only one confused by all this?
Well, I hope that not all of the posts are baffling. Sometimes it's fun to just go with the flow...

Hello and Happy Saturday,
I have a question for all the MM vs MC guru’s. I just upgraded my preamp and the 2nd phono input is MC. While I do have the ability to adjust the ohms on the McIntosh C2300, can I take it down low enough to use a MM cart on the MC input?

I can always switch to a MC cart, but I just bought an Ortofon Bronze for my 2nd table and I really want to use it.

Depending on the headshell (removable or not) perhaps you will just settle on swapping the RCA cables for a little while while you discover what the Ortofon can do? It does always seem to be a shame to have something nice (MC input) sit unused. If the Bronze makes happy sounds for you maybe it will just be there for when you want it. It doesn't hurt to have some reserve carts to swap now and again when things need a little change.

Used cartridges with very low hours can sell fairly readily too. The seller gets some of their money back and the buyer gets to try something for usually a fair bit less than retail. Nice examples sell fairly quickly on AK's subscriber classified ad section "Bartertown"

I have a Mcintosh MP 100 and I wouldn't dream of plugging my HO MC into the overly sensitive MC input. I am saving that for when I get a XX-2 LO MC.

Thanks for the feedback
