HI Edriz,
How is your Music Angel YC-808MK doing? Been researching about options which tube amp to get that are atleast 20KGs. I found out this particular model is at 20kgs. Can you confirm this? I was sold with Yaqin product but due to my country parcel weight restrictions, dealers from Hong Kong can't send the amp here. So i'm looking for decent option. I have to do my research again. Is the YC-808MK newer model than the other MA KT88?
Thanks!
PS: Sorry for bumping this thread.
Man, I cant believe its been almost 2 years since I got my MA YC-808MK!! Lets see if I can help ya out here. Not sure what 20KG's are but the 808 weighs in at 55lbs. Yeah, its a heavy lil sucker.
As far as I know, the 808MK was the newest in the KT-88 series, but that was almost 2 years ago. I gotta tell ya, I love this amp. Its clean, neutral sound is just what my Lascalas ordered. I did have some modifications done to mine though. Through my own stupidity, I tried biasing this amp and was doing the entire process totally wrong, which led me to redplatting one of the tubes. That was not a good thing for me since I have or had no experience with tube amps what so ever. I seriously thought I damaged the amp, luckily I didn't. Just messed up a tube. I decided then to have the bias pots relocated. It is a real PITA to bias this amp as is if ya don't know what your doing and you have hands that are in as bad shape as mine.
A sent the MA to a fellow AKer who relocated the bias pots for me using 2 small volume pots, I believe, and relocated them to the rear top 2 corners. Bias now is as simple as turning the pots. He added one 1/4" plug to the sides on each corner and also made leads with 1/4" plugs. To Bias, attach the plugs to a DMM, plug it in and adjust using the volume pots he installed for adjustments. I tell ya, its stupid easy to adjust bias, which I haven't done in a year but do check it every 2-3 months and it stays right where I had it set.
While he was inside, he also upgraded caps and resisters. All I know is he added some big red WIMA caps and not sure what he used for resistors but, the results were phenomenal.
I do want to add though, if you or someone local you know is experienced with biasing tube amps, bias adjustment without the mods is easy enough, just a pain for someone with my limited capabilities. Even out of the box with no other mods, the MA-808MK sounded surprisingly good for its price point. Im sure if the mods I had done were done at the factory, the price of the MA would be at least $300-400 more then the original asking price.
I can tell ya this, if I was still in the market for a tube amp, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these.
