Music Angel Amplifiers

845 amps are some of the most powerful of SET amps. They probably make around 20+ watts per channel.

Since SET amps operate in full class A the usable power output is not the same as non class A amps.

These amps do not use class A2 mode (only few with 845 tubes do). It means that real power output is 12-15 watts. Still should be enough to drive many speakers. But due to power limits they only useful for small scale music - acoustic jazz and chamber band. Thusyou still have to keep really power amp for anything else.

The SET is very much worth mentioning since I didn't know about SET VS Push-Pull. I think it's Push-Pull that I'd rather be pursueing for budget and speaker requirements. Coming from the plug and play world of S/S there are some aspects of tubes that are a bit esoteric or complex for me. I'm going to need something easy to bias too. I've been offered a solid unit but the biasing is for the experienced only so it's counted out.

Since my speakers are 88dB sensitivity I'm thinking along the lines of needing at or above about 30w/ch tube amp.

Still wondering where I see a single output figure instead of per channel on the Music Angel listings. Do I now consider that is for SET units?

Output figures in all tube amps are inflated. Most only can reach stated numbers while playing square wave. If you need high power, these two brands I suggest: McIntosh and Conrad-Johnson.

Yeh thanks. The big names in the game for good reason but beyond my entry level budget.

I was just on the email today to ebay sellers of 'Music Angel'. Return mail very quick and concise. I was asking about the biasing and do they come with instructions. The (friendly) answer was that I should not buy a 'Meng' because the biasing is inside the unit and they are sold for people who have electronics experience and who modify them ! OK; I won't buy one.

No , but I think I need more watts than they can easily provide. I'm tending to forget about Tube power now , either integrated or power purely due to budget constraint.
I have a tube Phono and may think of a tube preamp. Thus it removes the high price of tube rolling the power tubes. Just got to be realistic sometimes. It's a hobby to me and I have lots of noise makers already. The next move can be a twin SS power amp to go monoblock.

You should also consider class D amps. The TPA3116 has a tube like sound and if you add an inexpensive tube preamp you're in for a real treat.

I'm waiting to receive my Music Angel XDSE 845. I've read several forums that recommend modifying various parts on this amp. I'm building a custom triple-ported enclosure for my Audio Nirvana Super 12's to go with this setup. Hopefully it sounds as good as it should.
