IMHO.. OP did say "...the music most women listen to...", and to some degree I agree with him. Not to be confused with all women. Just like (for me) I can't stand rap or hip-hop. Now, would I go as far as to say "I dislike black music", no. But could I say that most black people listen to those genres and that I dislike it? Yes. I don't believe that warrants calling me a racist though.

Not trying to stir things up, just clarifying a point of view that may have possibly been overlooked.

And let's be realistic, weren't most of you guys from the good ol' days when cars were cars and women stood in the kitchen? *Terrible joke, I know. But at one time it was a very real way of life. Some people change with the times, some don't.

My apologies in advance if I've offended anyone, but I somehow felt the need to state my opinion.

I agree, gender has nothing to do with it. My wife listens to what I listen to. Heck, we even have conversations about how good it was recorded, the productions work, and sometimes even which playback method is used. I also know plenty of other women including women in my family with great taste in music. The only folks I know with bad taste in music are usually the ones who really don't care for it in the first place.
 
My wife listens mostly to a music I play (anything from classical to hard rock-depends on a mood). Nevermind the genre-if it's a good music-it's a good music.
 
My girlfriend likes to listen to Country/Western music. Which is not bad, but to me it sounds like pop music rather than the old country that I like. She also likes Guns n Roses, Def Leppard, Scorpions which is cool.
 
girls listen to the same thing as guys do. you act like females are the only ones listening to that horrible modern day pop stuff. guys actually listen to that crap as well. i mean it's like me calling dudes who like listening classical a bunch of wussies cause we men supposedly can't listen to that and need to listen to some metal to get our manly hormones flowing or something and classical is chick stuff cause it's about ''feelings'' and ''emotions''. give me a break.
 
My wife's tastes are all over the map. I went & got her hooked on Florence + The Machine...she listens to a "light pop" station often on her way to & from work...listens grudgingly to some some country (that's because the old man:) happens to be on the air at the time)...loves Diana Krall & Jane Monheit...appreciates Steely Dan...is starting to get into jazz a bit (thinks "Kind Of Blue" is a helluva album)...not much of a classic rock aficionado...digs the "vinyl concerts" I put on for her at times.

Essentially...if it's good...she likes it. And she is very discerning about the quality of reproduction as well. Can't beat that combination!

Oh...and we're both 60. Couple of geezers:)
 
Perhaps you need a larger sampling before you come to any conclusions.

I'm thinking of female friends and family and within that group I can't say I notice any trends. My wife's taste in music is mostly a subset of mine. There's little she likes that I don't, but there's much I like that she doesn't.
 
Not to derail this thread, but...

My 4-year-old grandson keeps playing "The Wheels On the Bus Go Round and Round" on his Fisher Price record player, and it drives me crazy! I mean, what's wrong with kids these days? I've tried to get him to play hip-hop, trance and heavy metal- but No! Just that same stupid song all day long!

Okay- you can close the thread now...

This thread could be (and arguably is) about pop music. The whole point about women is just an offensive, unnecessary holdover from the last century.

We each have the right in this country to be insensitive, hurtful and offensive. It doesn't men we have to go around exercising that right all the time.

I wonder what some of you think about a guy like me who really likes all that "women music" too.

Well, now that you mention it..............:D

It's true, the samplings are too small to be statistically significant, but they must be signicant in the OPs world. I often make observations that are perfectly valid in my area or among my circle of friends and acquaintances that aren't valid in the wider world.

^^This is true. I may need a larger sampling of women :D. No, jk. But I do see your point sir. Perhaps I just need to replace my wife and female friends with ones who have similar taste in music as I do :banana:.

All joking aside, it wasn't my intention to insinuate that I personally dislike the aforementioned "women's music", nor to suggest that all women (or people of different nationalities) have bad taste in music. Women, men, black, white, it doesn't really matter to me personally - if their taste in music sucks, then it is what it is. Doesn't mean I'm right; it just means I dislike a given persons choice of genre.
 
My girlfriend and I tend to agree most of the time...my taste in music is more varied than hers...of course I'm 17 years younger than her (although for the next week the numbers say 18, which she's enjoying rubbing in my face).

We've both turned each other on to stuff though. While I do tend to focus more on classic rock and not-so-serious hip-hop/rap...I do enjoy lighter singer-songwriter stuff. Just last week she turned me on to Nick Drake and was blown away. She also got me in to Joni Mitchell....I showed her John Prine and The Fratellis.

I guess my point is women can be all over the place musically.
