Bruce.......Congratulations on the new Denon. Looks like the downsizing is a success.

You made a good point in your post about what internal parts and pieces McIntosh, or any other company for that matter, uses to build their products. It is a world market place these days. Manufacturers no longer have to build each component, and every part in house. They will seek specified internal components from specialty manufacturers throughout the world. Pull the cover off a MS750. You will discover a Seagate hard drive, a Sony CD burner, and circuit board parts from manufacturers around the globe. Even the little cooling fan comes from China. This is modern day manufacturing, and it is here to stay.

That's what Smaller Companies like McIntosh specialize putting their particular idea of what spices to put in the soup which way.

This Denon masterpiece is their Soup and although doesn't have the 5 star rating on the menu, the soup might be just as good or even better. Like someone said in the AVP forum, Mercedes quality at Accura prices :tresbon:

Since I read the thread where someone who was taking the factory tour at McIntosh, and they were horrified to see a pile of Denon DVD/CD players that were gutted to use for the MVP871, it made me think, hmmmmm maybe Denon is a quality company. And then when they made these Statement pieces AVP-HDCI and amp and now coming out with a top DVD/CD player along the same lines, I decided to look in to it.....

Why would they gut complete units instead of just getting the parts they need?

There wasa thread on AK maybe someone else can direct to that someone who was taking the factory tour commented on a while back.

To think that a smaller company could make all the parts of Processors, Cd players etc is dreamin. The pieces are made all over the place and larger companies like D & M Holdings have the $$ to produce mass quantities and invest in research necessary to invent new stuff.

Also don't forget McIntosh is owned by D&M and others so they probably have special relationships

I am not suggesting they don't share parts, your argument that they do makes sense for all the reasons you suggest.

What I can't get my mind around is gutting existing components to get parts that should be available in free form.

Is this the unit that is reviewed in the February issue of Hi Fi News along with the DVD-2500BT and POA A1HD? According to the review the manuals will take you forever and somethings aren't even in the manuals.
