I bought the 3800 only as an addition to the stands, but when I listened to how they sounded ... I decided to save them. On my Beovox 3800 the veneer and aluminum frames were in a worn condition, I put the new veneer completely over the old surface. I didn't remove anything, just filled the holes. The original aluminum trim, as in all Beovox, protrudes a few millimeters in front of the veneer. I put the veneer to the end of the aluminum. Now you can only see the aluminum trim on the front of the 3800 as an accent between the grill and the casing. But like you can see I change also few things under grill because it looked ugly ( like almost all Beovox without mask ). Oryginally it looks as if BeO took random speakers and covered it with a grill so that it was not visible.

Because I had to choose: my wife or all the Beovx at home , now 3800 play at my friend's home and probably one of my 570x will go to him too.

Thank you for your reply. I also like your work on the new grille frames, a much better idea using the "poly" as those original frames are fairly weak and prone to distortion as you would well know. Yes, some of them are not the best looking with the grilles off, mine don't look as nice as yours as l haven't coloured the woofer cones or painted the baffles etc.

Your friend will be very happy and maybe your wife also by the sounds of it . I understand what it's like, l have had to sell most of my Beovox's also to free up some room, only 1702, 4702 & 5700 left.

and with 5700 i took another speakers - big Beovox M100.

in all site, all BeO forums you can read that M100 are the best from Beovox family. I done few days comparison test :

and .. who the hell called the M100 the best of Beovox !!!

In all aspects 570x sound better:
- High tones, 5702 sounds clearer, higher, more detailed
- Midrange, the 5702 is beautiful on the M100 ... that's probably the biggest problem
- Low tones, yes, the M100 sounds more powerful, but this bass kills all other sounds, in 5702 it is sufficient and creates harmony
- Stage, the M100 has a left speaker, a right speaker, 5702 is 3D, the speakers disappear and we are surrounded by sound
- Higher efficiency 5702, play louder at the same volume level

It is my opinion but after this a friend of mine who had always wanted the M100 came to me and listen to these speakers and put it in one sentence "M100 is one big disappointment" and told me everything I wrote above. The third person to compare these speakers is the owner of the M100. After listening, he stated that "he lived in a bad awareness that the M100 is the best Beovox", "I turned on the M100 and then the 5700 and it sounds like someone took the blanket off the speakers which muffled the sounds"

I also got to know the Beovox 3800 sound. Yes, they are weaker in power, but the quality, coherence, harmony and range of sounds also beat the M100.



So how is it with the M100 ?? A urban legend ??

I compared it too. 5702 sounds for me little bit better on bass and mid but I don't know it is difference in ABR or maybe in crossovers ( 5700 has this second version ). If you not listen it one by one you don't hear difference between these two type 570x.

and one more time: Both 570x play in higher league than M100.

Very interesting finding of yours on the 570X's vs the M100's. I have often kept an eye out for the M100 or MS150's, not sure how the latter would compare? Sounds like the 5700/5702's might be keepers for both of us, thanks for sharing your results .

It's amazing how speakers designed and built in the early 70's can still hold their heads up very high, even today. Guess it was a time when B&O's reputation meant everything.

It seems to me that the MS150 will also sound very strong at the bottom, but the treble and midrange will be weaker. If you want, I will post links to Youtube with the comparison between M100 and 5702. You can hear a big difference on the headphones.

Maybe you are interested in trumpet stands ?? I have extra one beautiful pair ...

I think what you say about the MS150 makes sense based on your findings with the M100.

Yes, that would be great if you wouldn't mind posting a link to your comparison. I would be very interested in trumpet stands and it is extremely kind of you to offer them but l think the price of postage from Poland to Oz might be a limiting factor, very much appreciated though .

Thank you, yes you can definitely hear the difference even on what l assume is your phone mic. The 5702's sound more clear and defined to me.

Two of my favourite bands also, good choice .

One more think. On photo you can see my Infinity RS ( this oak ), it sounds very similiar to the 570x, maybe more natural ( not that coloured ) but with stronger bass if it's need. If I compare this both, I can't pick favorite but now I listen music through Infinity.

I love this Beovox and started wooden work with next one ( meanwhile I refurbished Marantz LD100, Beovox M100 and big Marantz LD300 ( but maybe here it is not good place to put photo ?? )

I still love vintage BeO speakers and have few to rebuild but now I use Infinity. It started from refurbished by me RS 6000 and now I have RS 2.5. Fully working but I want to rebuild it.

I took out my KEF's. I changed sealing foam on ABR, and put more speaker damping inside.

I took out crossovers and changed wires and put new foam on all drivers

and I painted speaker mounts

now visually I finish my Beovox 5702

I only wait for Alcap electrolytic capacitors.

Can you please tell me where you got the new foam for the ABR’s? Kef BD139 SP 1037 as I cannot find them anywhere after hours of searching?

I wrote about foam between ABR and wooden box to seal it. My KEF was in very good condition, rubber suspension was like new.

I'm very curious as to what I've underlined in the above post:
We currently have a set of restored (by me) M75s in the livingroom - and what you write above is exactly how I feel about the M75s - there's bugger all soundstage to speak of. There's a left and a right speaker. The S75s we had before were way better. Since you also have a thread on M70s, how do they compare with the M100s with regards to soundstage? (I just picked up a set in decent condition with trumpet stands - currently playing in the garage, about 50cm apart, from where I'm posting - and it sounds like they do things quite differently to the M75s.

[Edit:] I will answer my own question. Since they sounded so "right" in the garage standing just 50cm apart, I dragged them into the living room and moved the M75s out of the way.

As Martynka says above, there is simply no comparison between the M75 series and the M70s. The M70s pulls the M75s pants down to it's ankles and makes naughty gestures. Spend a couple of hours with Pearl Jam, Dire Straits, Metallica, Leonard Cohen etc. then watched Bad Boys: Ride or Die afterwards. I am blown away - period....
