I like stuff from the late '40s & early '50s you young fellas have never heard about, & would probly go "Ewwwww!" if you did. Much like I do to rap. But that's OK-there's plenty of room for both of us. -Sandy G.

Like Glenn Miller? Patti Paige?

Yep. And Vaughn Monroe, Les Baxter, Art Mooney, Leroy Anderson... Toldja ya never heard of 'em....<grin>-Sandy G.

...Les Baxter...[/quote

That's the name of my insurance agent...

all of those except for "Vaughn Monroe" i've heard of. Music was Music then...not the noise it is today. which reminds me, i need to go borrow my mom's glen miller CD.

Monroe had a deep, rich baritone that's quite out of fashion today. More's the pity. In the late Forties, he sold something like 5 million records a year for RCA. The record of his you're likeliest to hear today is 1949's "Ghost Riders in the Sky", which was redone back in the early '80s by a group called the Ramrods, I believe. Back in the day he was known as "the Voice with hair on its chest", but everything I've read about him was that he was a friendly family man. I'm a baritone too, guess that's why I like him. -Sandy G.

Im 16, and currently working at future shop so the deals i get on speakers and amps are INSANE. I will be buying a yamaha 5790 and a pair of athena asf2's and a pair of asb2's soon, for cost. so really cheap.

right now im stuck with my panasonic sahe75 and my quest surround speakers which play LOUD but not as clear as i would like. It also helps to have the yamaha and athena point 5 system in the basement along with the big akai and cerwin vega d9's for cd and vinyl. My house will be POUNDING soon :naughty:

2 weeks and they will be back, new foam, new caps, new terminals, new speaker wire, new banana plugs.

Its gonna be nice!!! i cant wait :D

I dont know, i dont know what jbl L112's look like or there specs. Are they 15" woofer as well? Do you have any pictures?

with cerwin vega theres only one type of people that like them, all i listen to is rock nothing but. And with hard rock bands nothing beats big ass cerwins.

jbl is a bit more rounded and appeals to more people, cerwin is just straight out power handling and bass.

If you can, snatch the pebble from my hand.

SPLs without clarity are only loud. I bet the CVs have a pretty long excursion and will be a bit slower than smaller drivers. Try not to mix them up with anything real fast like ribbons or it will smear the sound. You will never know the difference with a lot of the over compressed recordings being released, but if you happen to get a real good recording you might miss the magic.

I am not saying you are on the wrong track, just keep in mind that different drivers for different jobs don't always move at the same speed and it can blur the sound image.

By the way I am a bit jealous. I didn't have a stereo when I was your age. I just used the old man's.

im one of those people :guitar:

You know you have quality sound when the bass moves the hair on the back of your neck and you can close your eyes and pick out each band member and point to where he is on the stage if live or at least say that the lead singer is right in front of you etc. and still have a conversation with someone else 10 feet away without shouting

I started out when I was 18 and had been working for a year or two already and had saved a little money this was 1979 and I bought a slightly used Phase Linear model 400 amp, 3000 preamp and 5100 Tuner all for about $500 found a BIC 981 Turntable and then stumbled on to a pair of the Monitors that the Playboy Club was using in their recording studio (I Think Queensryche's Empire was partially done there in it's waning days) anyway these monitors were actually 4 ft tall PA speakers with 2 diagonal 15" Altec woofers and a huge Altec Voice Of The Theatre Horn (511B I believe) anyway the horns were huge and these were made by "EROS". I powered many a blurry eyed party with that setup both indoors and out for many years and never even thought of upgrading anything because it blew away anything anyone had that I knew, I even had to pack the horn sectors with high density foam (big ass chunks) just to tame the horn for indoor listening. Well I sold the PA's and regret it at least once a month and that was over 18 years ago but I kept the Phase gear and it went on for another 12 years until I got in to financial trouble and reluctantly sold it all for $400

Well I have collected what I have so far in the past 2 years and love it all, I love the Phase gear best because it sounds great, looks great and brings back so many memories. I make a lot of money and can afford to do this but it took me 23 years of being in the workforce, screwing up and finally figuring things out to get to where I am. You at 15 have more than I ever had up to the age of 18 because I had nothing so I would say you are doing very well indeed and should be proud of all you have assembled, I recommend that you save your money and someday down the road find some good quality gear that you really like and hold on to some of your all time favorite pieces if possible because that is the one thing I regret the most. I do have a constant ringing in my ears due to the many years of absolute audio insanity so while I cannot tell how to handle your volume control, it is a consequence of what you are doing when you listen to sustained high SPL's

All that is left of my first system is the BIC turntable and I do love it dearly right down to the Greatful Dead plaque glued on the dust cover :smoke:

Rock on Jeff
