My first dust cover attempt

A friend gave me a scrap piece of acrylic he had laying around and I used it to attempt a dust cover.. This was the first time I've ever even worked with acrylic. Probably would not have picked a piece this thick had I bought it, but, beggars can't be choosers as they say.

I have to wait 24 hours for the weld to dry, then I can use a torch on the unfinished edges. I may run it on a router to ease the edges a bit. There's a lot of imperfections in the welds (bubbles) but they aren't too noticeable. It's made me feel confident enough to try it with a piece that I actually spend $ on.

Anyway, the question I have is: does anyone know a good source for stand-offs/feet, hinges for acrylic?

wow....that's a damn fine job on the dust cover! how thick is that plexi?

when you upload pics, when you select the pic you want to upload, just select multiple pics. it should work.
 
You can also do this with the icon that looks like a landscape.

Hmm.. Going to HAVEto try from a computer, the ipad isn't letting me add multiples.

Plexi is 9/16", kinda thick...

What does that thing weigh, and what caliber of a bullet can it stop?

Looks fine for a first go at working with that stuff! What did you use to cut it?
 
That is one impressively sturdy looking dustcover. You could set your receiver on it and it wouldn't even bow. Never have to worry about that dustcover cracking.
I bet it would look nice (and different) if you ran a router round-over bit around all edges.

Nice work, any softcover is better than none and free is even better. Thickness wouldn't bother me. Does the hinges support the cover ? Maybe a nice handle on top to help with lift off ?

Lol.. Not as heavy as it looks, probably only about 65 lbs :)

Luckily the the spring suspension is on the inside of table and not under the wood plith.
 
For your first dustcover, you did a fine job. I would be proud to use it and say, I made this myself. :thmbsp: :music:

Man, I'd be scared to death about dropping that behemoth on my table.

That being said, it's some very nice work!!
 
That does look good and as someone said it would probably look better rounded over. You have a lot of material to work with so could have a very attractive radius I think.
