Hello everyone,

This is my very first post here on Audiokarma and from what I've read, it seems to be the right place to come for the kind of info and feedback I'm looking for.

I'm completely new to HiFi and never really thought getting serious about it until a few weeks back when I went to a friends house and heard some music coming out of his Accuphase amp and some super special Sony speakers that I do not remember the model. It just sounded AMAZING!

Anyway, I am not looking to buy an Accuphase or those same speaks since they cost a fortune, but I would like to get into this high quality HiFi thing you guys have going on. My ears just aren't the same anymore.

After spending the whole weekend searching the internet, it became pretty clear that Marantz amps&receivers from the 70s are a big deal and everyone that owns one says they sound great.

I am keeping an eye on a auction for a 2015 that is ending tonight. Everywhere I read people say it is "only" 15W but that it actually packs more power than that and the sounds is just great. Personally, I am not after the power but the quality instead. I will be using it in a pretty small apartment anyway.

Besides the 2015, there is also another auction going on for a 2230 and a 4230.

What would be your personal opinion regarding these 3 models?
What would be a good price for each of these? They all seem to be in very good condition.

There's also a 2250B in Black but the owner is asking more than I would like to spend. For how much do these go nowadays anyway?

I'll also be needing a good pair of speakers. Nothing powerful or big. Just high sound quality in the smallest package possible. Would be great if I could hide them under the sofa or something like that since I don't have that much space in the living room where the misses wouldn't get pissed off!

To finish it, I need a turntable to go with it and start listening to some records again.

Of the four you have listed there, I would go after the 2250B, which IMHO is the best receiver of those you have listed. It also has the best features as well.
My second choice would be the 2230, but if the 2250B is above your budget this would be a great choice.
I would stay away from the 4230, not because it is a bad receiver, but because it's a quad and will require that much more servicing.

I haven't heard the 2015 but I have restored a couple of 2215Bs and they sound great!
 
Looking at recent listings on the auction site, I would say that $300-$450 seems reasonable.

However, you mention that the 2250B you are looking at is all black.
If it has one of the reproduction face plates being sold on ebay, you will pay a premium for it.
 
It comes in black yes.

Owner wants $470 which I think is too much to spend right now. Unless this would be a good investment!

The 2015 auction ends tonight, about $60 right now.
 
I liked the looks of the black face plates with silver knobs so much that I'm ordering a custom face plate for a tube preamp I'm building. I'm not big on black face equipment but the black with silver knobs just pops!
 
Just missed the Marantz 2015 for 4 minutes. Wasn't paying attention to the auction. Sold for $60.

Lets see what else I can find...

Any suggestions for small quality speakers that wont break the bank?
 
The auction for the 2230 that I am watching is almost touching the $150 mark and there's still 10 days to go and it has a lot of bidders.

Prices are really different here in Sweden compared to the USA. Not that much on offer...

Can someone recommend me some small quality speakers?
 
2270s are very nice receivers.

Don't bother with the 1530 you may be disappointed with it, the build and sound quality aren't anywhere near the same level as the 22xx receivers.
 
If a tuner section is not important... (you can add a separate tuner later) look at a 1060 or 1030 integrated. The 1060 is a good investment.. If you have patience, you will find a good deal and be able to recoup your $ when the upgrade bug kicks in. There may still be a recapped 1030 on the BT forum that I keep thinking about.

When the Marantz addiction hit me I went with the black face receivers as well but quickly moved to a integrated amp and then onto separates. Also, when you get a good system together, you will not be using your eyes.. staring at the equipment... just using your ears to enjoy.. So I would not let looks get in the way of your decision.

Turntable: look at Technics' linear trackers sl-5, sl-7 etc.. (small footprint for small spaces)
 
I have a 2230 with Klipsch KG4's and a Pioneer PL55X and it all sounds great to my ears, but some think the horn loaded Klipsch can have harsh upper range. The 2230 could probably do with a re-cap, but still it is a sweet little amp in a 15x25 room it can get too loud for me.
