That's exactly what I heard too (with B&W). Can't wait to upgrade to the C220.. :music:

jim777,
Are you still planning on using your MA6500 in your system or did you buy a new power source? Or, is the C220 just a dream at this time?

I think we can still call it a dream for right now. First I want to get a home with a dedicated room for audio (w/ room treatment), then 802D's or 803D's, then the C220 and at least a MC402. But I'm still young, I'll get there!

Well, your targets are ones that would be high on most people's lists. I'm not nearly as young as you but can only consider those items a dream for myself. I have to contend with the wife factor and feel lucky to have my nice but relatively modest system.

I'm lucky to have a wife that loves music at least as much as I do. And yes, it will remain dream for a few years.. I'll start with the new house that should be next summer. But I need high targets like that to get up in the morning :D

You won't go wrong with the C220. I have been verry very pleased for the past several months.

Is there any "pro" english (or french) review of the MCD201 getting out soon? A Stereophile review would be nice I guess. I already know it sounds great, I would just love to see measurements of it..

Some time has passed and I was wondering if Mac's latest firmware download has finally done the trick?
Have those with issues has success?
My new one finally arrives next week and I was wondering if this "new production" has sorted everything out.
Thanks
in advance :scratch2:

The newer models have more calibration done so there is less "luck" involved. You should be fine!

The only problem I got with my replacement player is that it freezed two times since I have it, at the end of songs (randomly, does not repeat on the same disc). But, it doesn't skip! Note that it doesn't have the latest firmware (because I don't know if it would address this issue anyway).

I'm also interested in upgrading my CD player to the 201, but don't think I could live with the difficulties people have been reporting. I would be interested as well in hearing any feedback from those who have recently purchased one. Thanks,
Bill

I purchased a MCD201 about a month ago, and have been very happy with both the sound and the disc reading performance. I have found only one CD (a JVC XRCD) which it would not read. All other CDs and SACDs have read without problem.

After installing firmware version 4, I haven't had any problems. Aside from living with the slightly loud transport, I truly love the player in my system.

We always like to know the title of a problem disk so we can add it to our test collection.

thanks,

Hi Ron,

Newbie Mac owner here. Scrolling through some old posts and saw this. Was wondering if you had the Enigma MCxxxx on your list. Asked in a few threads but nobody responded to this question :tears: (p.s. I have two of the same disc produced years apart).

Many thanks and apologies to all if I am not meant to reactivate old threads.

Yes Hifi Choice reviewed it using Alvin Gold as the reviewer. He really liked it and started the Hifi Choice 'luv affair' with the Macs excluding the 6900. It was reviewed last year

You mean they didn't like the 6900?

....What didn't they like?

I may consider getting this player in the future, first off if I get my bills down, and second if I can also find a Blu Ray recorder that plays DVD-A. What Im wondering is Mac lists this player having 24 bit D/A converters, yet SACD is 1 bit. Does this player convert the 1 bit signal to 24 bit or is it using a hybrid D/A converter that natively plays DSD in 1 bit? I'd rather it does not change DSD to a multibit signal.

By the way did anyone notice the Mac gear in the movie "The Departed"? I just watched the film last night and they had a scene in it using some of this gear.

I think that all high quality DSD and PCM DACs are multi-bit internally (at least 4 and less than 16). It is the best "pratical" way to implement DSD.

The MC201 has 24 bit RESOLUTION. The decoding scheme is neither pure one bit DSD or PCM but is multibit. I do not think anyone is still using one bit to decode DSD as higher performance is achieved buy using multibit.
