My New Swiss Army Knife

Florida has some hinky laws about switchblades. You can buy one, carry it home in a bag, but never be caught with one in a sheath or in your pocket. ????? I don't even remember where I got mine. I've had it for a long time.

one of my favorite things about them is the lifetime warranty, i bought this beauty for $1 CDN with a broken large blade (as in snapped off) and missing one scale. they sent it back polished with all parts replaced free of charge.
Interesting. I have an "automotive" themed Swiss Army Knife that my mother got for me decades ago and the scissors fell apart--the screw fell out and one half of it is buried somewhere in a box, sans screw. That and I usually misplace the toothpick and the tweezers, so those are always in flux as to whether I have them or not. (Those tweezers are hard to hold but are also the only ones I've had luck with in extracting splinters!) I really should send it off for repairs.

Here is my Swiss Army Knife, the "Scientist" model. No longer made and going for big bucks (IMO) on ePay, but I find this model to be just perfect for me. I call it the "journalist," because of the pen that has come in handy when I've misplaced on of the three or four I usually carry, a cutting blade, pen, magnifying glass, corkscrew, flat screwdriver with bottle/can opener and wire stripper, Philips head and mini screwdrivers (in the corkscrew), toothpick, tweezers, can opener and straight pin. Been carrying it for over three decades -- has just what I need, without being too big. Live in fear I'll misplace it someday. My only complaint is that the SS blade doesn't hold a sharp edge that well. Belt & suspenders tho, I also carry a Griptilian daily carry folder that is very sharp.

Very cool knife displays. Thanks for the visual. Wildcat, your knife can be sent back and most likely be repaired for free. Victorinox knives have a lifetime warranty.

I keep looking in the mail for this until I took a second look at the sale page and realize this is being sent from Switzerland. It is slated to arrive around the 26th. Oh well.

resized_20210109_213304.jpg I don´t carry one, but this is in our kitchen, and I use it to open beer bottles and tin cans.

edit: It´s at least 35 years old.

I don´t carry one,
How do you clean a dirty fingernail? Cut a loose thread off your clothing? Open a package? Strip speaker wire!!!!

Just funnin ya but I would feel naked without a knife in my pocket. I've had one there for more than 50 years. Started with this one:

All the boys in grade school had them and carried them to school. They were different times. Lots of stick carving, mumblety peg and pin finger.

At work, I have something similar to this:

When not at work, I have never missed not having a knife with me.
Yes, I can understand that. I can see how you may not miss what you didn't ever have. My only point was I became accustomed to having one I guess. Some things I've used it for in addition to the aforementioned:
Cutting open hay bales to feed the horses.
Cutting an apple in half to feed to said horse.
Cutting a cigar when I don't have a cutter.
Cutting fishing line when I don't have a clipper.
Using it to gently turn in a screw that was about to fall out.
Handing it to someone who asks, "anyone have a knife?"

Always had a few SAKs around, they are IMHO pretty much indispensable as a good pocket toolbox. Years ago, I purchased an original Leatherman Super Tool, thinking it might replace the SAKs. Never happened. I DO, however, really like the folding pliers on that Leatherman....
