Alright guys, I have been slowly getting into the vintage gear hobby here lately, and I have decided that I would like to try my hand at restoring an old amp. I have 2-3 friends that do this on the side who assure me that they can help me and teach me, but I wanted to start here. I have a Pioneer SA-7100 that I am going to use as the first unit I try to completely go through. I have been looking at the parts list in this thread to try and decide what to order to go through this amp. I am new to this, so my questions will be newb questions. For starters, the following three parts are listed as obsolete and no longer in stock on mousers website (512-1n4004, 512-1N5404, and 598-DSF050J474). Can you list alternative parts I can order and use in their place? Additionally, 647-UKL1H010KDDANA is listed as planned for obsolescence, and you can only order it if you order 200 of them. Should I go ahead and order 200 of them, or is there another part I can substitute for it to avoid ordering that many? Also,
512-KSC1845FTA, 647-UPW1H101MPD, 512-KSC2073TU, 512-KSC2690AYS, and the expensive transistors are all backordered. Should I order them and wait for them to come in or are there possible alternatives (other suppliers, substitute parts)?Finally, I have acquired a number of 1970s amps and receivers that I plan to go through (Yamaha, Onkyo, Sansui, Marantz, Pioneer, McIntosh, etc.), but this Pioneer is to be my first one. Can you tell me out of the parts list for this amp what I should go ahead and order a good number of, anticipating needing more of it with future amps/receivers that I go through, and then which items should I only order what I need for this amp because I am unlikely to encounter future need for the part? I am also fairly new to the forum and haven't posted much yet. Please tell me if this needs to go somewhere else. Thank you for any help you can offer. I am excited to try my hand at restoring an amp.

You would be better served if you started your own thread as petehall347 mentions.
This way you will have your very own thread and get a tailored approach.
As for those substitute pieces, i'm not qualified to answer that, but I'm very sure that others will chime in when you post up your refurb thread.
As you can appreciate I did mine quite a few years ago now and some parts have become obsolete, as you've pointed out, and the BOM list needs to revetted to ensure suitable replacements are found and updated.
B the way, the SA7100 in this thread was my 1st refurb. I still have it.
Haven't done any since, but I plan to do both my SX-750s, an SX 680 and 690 then maybe move up to my 1050 then ultimately the 1250 in my stable.
