My slow Pioneer Spec build

Got new Speakers

I was searching craigs for a descent pair of speakers, but kept finding junk. I was able to score an insane discount directly thru Kef for a pair of Q700's. All I can say about them is WOW- and to think they are not even broken in yet. I am now using my system as a 2.1 for music & TV viewing



 
Where did you get those LEDs, and are they a safe drop in replacement?

BTW...I love the simple look of your system. Great job on the stand. :thmbsp:

I got the led bulbs from ebay for about $30. I have been playing music on them for hours, and so far so good. The seller offers free lifetime warranty.

Trust me- I wish I could invest ina TT & Vinyl, but I have too many other hobbies and not enough cashflow.
 
Cool workmanship Zork!Did you use threaded Stainless steel rod for your main frame?I use that at work and it has never come to mind how easily a person could create a fully functional,industrial buildt ,and very attractive stereo stand,it also pays to have wood working skills also obviously.Those are the personal touchs I can appreciate with our stereo systems...good on ya!!

I actually used ACME threaded rods & nuts in plain steel. A lot of people build their flexi racks with stainless or zink coated hardware, but I personally don't like those finishes or the threads and as you said I wanted to give it my personal touch. The plain steel is more like a gunmetal finish. These cell phone pics don't do it justice. I will try and get some better pics with my wife's SLR of the rack.
 
Looks just like mine too. :) I like the added cork washer idea! Are the threaded rods black chrome? Brings back memories of the Pioneer power amp and preamps of the 70s and 80s!

The Rods, Nuts & Washers are actually plain steel.

In the flesh it looks more like a gunmetal finish.

Where did you end up getting the hex nuts from? after seeing your acme threaded rod rack i wanted to build one but the nut price is crazy . the rods are only a few dollars more at mcmaster but the nuts are almost $2 a piece. do you have a better source?
 
If I ever upgrade from my SX-950, the Spec will be on my short list. Love everything about your system. Funny, I also thought your top shelf looked a bit naked w/o a turntable.

Acme hardware is not cheap. I think it was about $90 for all rods, nuts and washers.

I am out of town at the moment and can't remember where I sourced them from. I will get back to you.
 
Couple of additions

I scored a mint BSR EQ for $20 from Craigs. I have never heard of BSR, but for 20 bones I couldn't go wrong.

Also my wife got me a nice Print.
