My system- need advice on how to add streaming

Researching this more and a lot of people say they run it into a separate dac. Would that be needed for my system?
 
It has a built-in DAC, but I guess some people prefer to use their own. Standard usage is with a 3.5MM to dual RCA outputs, but you can also get a special Toslink cable. Since your system is all analog, I'd say start out with the regular cable and see how you like it. You can decide later to add a separate DAC.
 
Thanks for the advice on chromecast audio, loving it. In case anyone is interested in getting one I would check on offerup, letgo and craigslist. Ended up getting two of them for a total of $35 and there are other ones out there for way cheaper then ebay. Debating on whether to ebay one or just have a backup.
 
Been following this thread with interest. My query is that, will one of the $15-30 BT streaming receivers have better SQ than the analog outputs on my 2 Echo Dots. I have no idea of the exact specs, and can't find out what DAC they use and what is the max streaming bitrate that the Echo Dot processes. The SQ with a decent 1/8" to RCA cable is very good to fantastic depending on whats playing. The Echo puts out VVG quality sound and in the $50 will anything be an improvement.

Not if your talking about analog straight from the source, CDP, TT. Tuner etc. You lose resolution over BT. Check out the numbers on the interweb. Some people can’t hear a difference but it’s not because BT is great. It’s their hearing or system.

Not sure what the Echo puts out. It should be on the interweb.

Edit: the quick search I just did on my phonies says 256kbps, not sure how accurate that is, I didn’t dig into it. But the Google search had a lot of info.
 
I do have the HD option and when it became available there was a large improvement in SQ.
The free MP3's you get from Amazon for your library that you own are on average 256K. Was under the impression that your library is upgraded to at least CD quality when you cough up the $5 a month. Hoping someone knew the answers.

That should be easy to figure out on Amazon or an Internet search.
 
Which Amazon devices support Amazon Music HD?
Alexa-enabled Echo devices (2nd generation and later), Fire TVs and Fire Tablets all support HD quality audio. The Echo Studio, Echo Link, and Echo Amp support Ultra HD quality audio.
HD tracks are 16-bit audio, with a minimum sample rate of 44.1 kHz (16/44.1 is also referred to as CD-quality), and an average bitrate of 850 kbps.
