My system that started it all (1980)

GW still produces at times brutha cuz I'm lookin' at a Pioneer SX-750 and Pioneer CT-F1000 Cassette from last week. (Not one cell of my being here is gloating but just putting hope out there for the joy of a find to ya.)

I wish I'd have been aware when this big ol' ugly and out of date equipment was first busting out onto those GW shelves I'll tell ya. The bigger it was.....the faster some people would get rid of it I'm thinking!
 
I remember around 1969-'70 my big brother was putting in his 8 months over in Vietnam, before he came back home he visited Thailand. From what I understand that was the place to go for stereo equipment before you headed home. :thmbsp:

He called home and told dad about the equipment that he shipped and it should be arriving soon. Also, please open up the boxes and make sure nothing is damaged. Oh yeah, he said do not let my little brother touch anything! (that would be me!) :thumbsdn:

The day it all came was like Christmas! I pleaded with dad to go ahead and set up the gear, but no way he said. Darn! I wanted to mess-around with that stereo equipment so bad. I can only remember one piece, that was the Teac reel to reel. :D

I wish I had thought to snap a picture of my apartment at College in 1980. It was a cornucopia of audio bliss. Similar. Gusdorf cabinetry. DBX 118 expander. No McIntosh back then. Of course had the mandatory R2R with metal reels, even though I used the new Sanyo Microprocessor Cassette 90 percent of the time.

Yamaha CA-810 based system. Best I could afford then, and still enjoy that system now.

My first stereo was in 1975 with a Realistic STA-76 and a BSR Turntable with MC-1000 speakers. Still have that as well (sans the BSR - Replaced with a Pioneer), and still enjoy it. Especially the Quatrovox.

Ahhh.... Memories. Sweet. :thmbsp:
