Hi everyone!
I recently picked up an ADC Sound Shaper 110 equalizer on Facebook Marketplace. It’s a 10-band stereo EQ with a built-in spectrum analyzer. To be honest, I’d never heard of ADC (Audio Dynamics Corporation) before. I mainly bought it for the aesthetics—it looks great in my setup, and the spectrum analyzer adds a nice visual touch.
I tried researching the brand, but there’s no Wikipedia entry, and most of the info I found online was pretty sparse. Does anyone here have experience with ADC gear?
When I searched for similar models on eBay, I only found a couple that seem to be exactly the same, with prices ranging from fair to outrageous. What really puzzled me, though, is that searching for “ADC Sound Shaper 110” doesn’t return many units that look like mine. Most results are SS-110 Mk II models or other versions with a completely different design—none with a spectrum analyzer like mine.
Eventually, I found the SS-100SL, which looks nearly identical to mine—if not the same. The main difference seems to be the branding. The SS-100SL has Sound Shaper in a stylized italic font followed by Stereo Frequency Equalizer Model SS-100SL. My unit just says Sound Shaper 110 Stereo Equalizer. I wouldn’t be surprised if they turned out to be the same EQ internally—but that makes me wonder: why would ADC release two different models with such minor cosmetic differences?
There’s also a sticker on the back of my unit that says DATE 926—not sure if that means June 1992 (which, I think is a little late for ADC), or something else entirely.
If anyone here owns the same model as me (SS-110), the SS-100SL, or any other ADC gear, I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’m especially interested in learning more about the brand’s history, where this model fits in their lineup, and ideally, finding an owner’s or service manual for the SS-110.
