Mystery speakers...help!

I never said Onix crossovers looked like that.

And I have seen WV speakers with not as much as a capacitor. I've also seen some with 4 drivers, only 1 actually connected to the terminal cup.

My point is, there's all kinds of crap out there, these speakers don't look like your average WV.
 
White Van... white Van... White van... I bought ALL of my "white van" speakers off of vehicles that were neither white, nor vans! I wish we could come up with another descriptive way to refer to the not-bought-from-the -store/shipping-container-scam speakers.... :D

They look better than WV speakers to me... so hopefully the OP only paid WV price...
 
i maintain that WV speakers are improving in some cases by virtue of computer design programs readily available and PE DATs units etc, to say nothing of cheap components from china.

these could be recent fairly decent sounding WV?
 
I had a pair of Sony 12" 3 ways from Best Buy that only had a couple of caps as a crossover and no internal padding, the crossover he pulled does not look like it would be in any white van or super cheap speaker IMHO. Until he pulls the drivers and gets some numbers it's still a mystery.

Heh! I figured that.

My whole point is that some of the gear out of China is excellent in terms of the quality of parts, even the non-traditional distribution pieces. That a WV set would have a credible crossover, terminal cup, and drivers really isn't really remarkable anymore. Neither is it sounding good. It likely costs a company less to buy x1000 assembled crossovers and install them than labor cost to hand terminate/hot glue loose parts inside the cabinet.
 
The OP hasn't been back for quite awhile. Until he does (hopefully with drivers in hand), we're just wanking, IMHO.
 
Having poly, paper, or carbon cone drivers
Having an extensive crossover or a single cap
Having a heavy, well braced cabinet or a light, thin ,hollow
Having large magnet structure or a small dinky magnet
Having springloaded terminals or 5 way binding posts or bi-amping ability
Having vinyl wood grain cladding or real wood veneer
Having more than 1 driver or less than 12
Having hard dome or soft dome tweeters
Having bold nameplates or removable stickers

Can lead to identification as White Van:jump:

Ahh, the old fake driver trick. I have a Sony boom box with a fake tweeter. That's the only way you can get around having at least a cap in there somewhere. Ingenious.
 
I tore down a busted boombox once, was really disappointed in the human race when I found out it had a fake tweeter.
 
I still say they are not white van speakers. Would love to see the drivers pulled though.
