Mystery Speakers ?

Mystery Tannoy Speakers ?

These speakers are part of a package I'm looking at, apparently they don't have any make/model markings and the seller isn't too forthcoming with info.

All I know is woofers are 8", and I'd guess they're a 1980's breed which stand approx 800mm tall (or more).

At the moment, the speakers are a bonus addition since it was the components that caught my eye first but the speakers may in the end cinch the sale (for me).

I've googled endlessly but haven't been able to come up with anything that even remotely matches. I've even checked through all the mystery topics in this forum hoping for something but ... nada! :dunno:

Any help appreciated. :)

that silver face is a give away but i can;t recall whom right now. The woofers look like something is wrong with them?

I wondered too - almost like a repair job gone wrong?

So far the 11SE Mk2 is definitely the closest match I've seen.

If I win this auction (it'll be tough) then hopefully in a week or 2 I'll have more info but it sure would be nice if the seller would give some better clues about what he's selling. :saywhat:

Those look like a pair of Energy speakers that have been popping up on Seattle CL recently, though the guys keeps spelling it “speekers” and it does look like something is wrong with the woofers.
 
On dented aluminum coil covers I have used sticky tape to pull them back out/remove dents, before. Maybe just a little wrap of tape around your pinkey could be enough to get them back out, but if they are felt or paper covers, do not use tape that is too sticky, you want to coax them, not tear off a chunk! Or replace, somewhere I have seen black domed VC covers for speakers, for sale. If you can remove the old ones cleanly.
 
maybe paradigm but mostly likely to be energy speakers, and if i were you i would ask for woofer pics or not buy it.just saying...thats what ill do
 
Well, I won so next weekend I'll be able to fill in a few gaps.

But ... I was bidding on a Kenwood M2A + C2 and the speakers just came along as part of the package.:)
 
They're Tannoy! About 1 metre tall and heavy enough to be considered back breakers. The fronts are a really dark grey and not the lighter grey that appears in the photo I posted. The drivers are these but the dustcaps are tan/brown in colour.

I haven't plugged them in yet ... still have another one to haul in from the car.

Anyone have any idea what model they could be?
 
Tannoy made heaps of speakers. Could you give accurate measurements of the boxes and take out one of the woofers and take a picture of any numbers etc.

I may be onto something.

There's 2 ports at the rear and a single set of binding posts.

But I'm not home for a few more days and don't have my camera with me.

When I looked inside, they're well lined with a thick cotton type of heavy padding plus have some loose pink batts. Crossovers weren't elaborate (visually at least) as I thought they might have been, but the internal wiring is much heavier than I've seen with other speakers.

The previous owner had them since new, I would say early 90's? which would roughly tie in with the Kenwood components from above.

I'll be damned. I thought those might be Tannoy, but wasn't sure enough to comment.

Those look to either be a predecessor, or an early version, of the Tannoy C-88, as seen here:

I am still looking. I thought I had found something similar, but the figures don't match.
Pity there is no Tannoy badge on the front to really confirm they are Tannoy's. They could be customs?
