N.E. Winter Doldrums Fest

I could bring my tweaked Zhaolu DAC and we could do a shoot-out :-P
You're on!
I think it's at the post office, I'll snag it tomorrow.

Still trying to decide how to package it. I was thinking that I'd configure it with a selector switch so I could run analog and digital in simultaneously. that way I could A-B them.
Would probably require some trimpots to equalize the levels though; good thing they're in stock.
Also I'm planning on swapping the opamp from a NE5532(?) to an OPA2134

1) Cigar box :-)

2) Now...

Since there is no hope of impressing any of this crew with "big" stuff (my big stuff isn't big compared to yours), I have been kind of thinking about bringing along some little stuff -- maybe a pair of Bottlehead Paramours (SE 2A3 monoblock amps) and a pair of single-driver speakers (e.g., the FE-207Es in BR cabinets) to listen to. I can bring my Bottlehead Seduction phono preamp and (heck, why not) a b&o TX-2/MMC-4 if folks are feeling analogic. The other thing that I could bring is the little S-5 Electronics 11BM8 PP stereo amp (if any of you've never heard nor seen one and are curious about really cheap modern amp kits).

What say ye?

3) Finally...

so... markus. Bringing OBs? If so, should I bring some drivahs (as the locals might say) to throw on 'em?

well . . . . my JE Labs OB's met with some water damage in the basement (and not the clean kind) :tears: so they are on the funeral pyre, BUT, I could bring the tall 8 incher open baffles of yours and they could be a new door prize to some lucky AK'er :D

I can bring that little yamaha powered sub to fill in the bottom end too

and motorstereo, if you're reading this, yep - KLH 5 grilles are coming your way :thmbsp:

I am liking that idea, Markus! I can bring a bevy of 8" FR drivers... and... I just ordered a pair of these (like a moth drawn to a flame, I couldn't resist; just couldn't resist):

OOoo. . ..SHINY !

I'll bring some 8 inchers too :thmbsp: . . . I've got Philips, Ampex, RCA, and uuuhhh . . . . lotsa others :D

You're the man Markus. I love these klh5's. How's the thorens working out for you?

I'm glad those 5's are working out for you. have you noticed much difference now that you've had them a while (cap break-in) ? and that Thorens is a beauty

it's got a hum that Deli will hopefully help my track down and fix, but it's probably something simple . . . Deli's thinking the ground, but we'll see :thmbsp:

once it's working 100%, it'll be the main deck

To be honest Markus the 5's sounded great from the first time I plugged them in and they still sound great. I'd like to say I noticed a difference but I haven't.
Sorry to hear about the hum. That sucks. Hopefully it will be an easy fix and it is a ground wire missing somewhere. That is a beautiful deck and I do hope you get the bug out of it. What cart are you going to use?

Deli,

I suggest you bring that TT I've cut the tonearm board for, we can try it for fit.

And if you have veneer we can vacuum press it/them while you are there.

I've got some cherry, Ahinga, and some other funky veneer I could donate to the cause . . . :thmbsp:

Nice thing about the shop, we can accomodate everything. Peter has offered some of his shop and his conference room is a nice small space, my shop is better suited to big rigs. Also have hallways, stairways...and the 4th floor is pretty much empty just in case you need 8k sf of something...mill croquet comes to mind...

My current system in the shop: Setton PS&BS 5500's, A7 Vott's

Hey. how are those settons treating you?

Need cheap (free?) small receiver

I have a friend recovering from a recent brain surgery to remove a tumor. Music is a big part of her life but her Kenwood receiver recently bit the dust. Money is tight for this couple so I volunteered to try and find a free receiver for them. Unit doesn't have to be pretty or a power monster -- 25 - 30 watts should do it -- but "price" is important. She is (re)teaching herself to play guitar -- as "therapy -- so music is key to her recovery. I've already given away or sold all my small receivers/amps, otherwise I give her one.

If you have something, please let me know and thanks in advance.

You're kidding, right? :-)
I'll gladly pick you out something nice from the collection.
Does she need anything else? Source, speakers?

I've got a Pioneer 100W/ch pro-logic receiver. This one you can disable pro-logic/center/rear surround and run just straight stereo. Discreet outputs too. Good tuna! It's hers if she wants it.
