N.E. Winter Doldrums Fest

I'm not feelin' all that good, however cabin fever is going to eat me up if I do not get out. I'm REALLY shooting to be there.

Best,

Paul

I'm bummed that you're not feeling too good. :sigh:

Maybe getting out for a spell will be good for you.

It would be good to see you "in person".

BTW -- I have some LPs for you. I recorded the ones from Frank's last gig onto my remaining Maxell cassettes, so the vinyl is redundant. :thmbsp:

Feel better!

"... Yeah. OK, well, uh, we found, uh, this mouse in a bottle of YOUR BEER, eh. Like, we was at a party and, uh, a friend of ours - a COP - had some, and HE PUKED. And he said, uh, come here and get free beer or, uh, he'll press charges, eh..."

Bob & Doug McKenzie (two of my favorite canadians) from "Strange Brew"

OK -- at the last gathering at Frank's I beat John to several rekkids I wanted solely for listening -- nothing rare, just good listening, so tapes will do. Maybe he'll want to pass them on to someone else?

And I'm trying to lure him out to the event if he feels up for it.

Don't we all keep our archival records in Beemer's garage for safe keeping?

I'm planning on setting up a system that includes my DIY DAC and a modded Sony HD tuner for people's edification. Probably use a Sansui AU-7500 and some modded B&W speakers.

It'll be quite interesting to see/hear the Sony tuner

+1 on the sony tuner, i was hoping to be able to see and hear one before purchasing, even told santa claus to hold off for a bit.

Mind if I bring along my Sony SA50ES tuner to compare to it?

Oh, OK. Maybe I'll trade ya.
I have found that installing a switch to force analog reception is a really nice addition to this.
We'll do the completely subjective, non-scientific test.

Frank, what time is this shindig to take place approximately? Trying to figure out how I can put together a road trip, pick my wife up in Boston, make this show, get speakers to Mark, pick up speakers from Dave in CT., and be home to cook a pizza before my mother in law arrives.

Enquiring minds want to know but I didn't see any time mentioned.

I am thinking/hoping late morning/early afternoon, because I am not about to sacrifice a trip or two past the swap pile at the dump Saturday AM just to listen to some big ol' junky hifi equipment.

Cabinover, I'll do whatever's necessary to ensure that we cross paths this weekend. I'll even turn my cell phone on if it helps!

Ok guys, I am having trouble with my Magnavox 175-GH tube amp. If I bring it along, along with both sets of tubes I have can you guys help my figure it out? I recaped it and checked the resistances as per the schematic and that all checks out. So I am thinking maybe I have the bias wrong?

If anyone attending is thinking about selling a decent (ie: cheap, working) preamp WITH phono stage I would sure be interested.

S'posed to be 23 degrees F on Saturday. Whoo-hoo! Frank, your place's got heat, yes? Otherwise... I want everybody to bring a Class A amplifier.

Mark, I know how you like to cuddle to keep warm, but remember, this may not be an appropriate venue for such behavior.

May I suggest you bring your slanket?

Not to change the subject... but I fired up the Paramours last night on the FE207Es and didn't like what I heard :-( The Decware Zen SE-84B (at a blistering 2 wpc or so from triode-mode Rooshian SV83 outputs) sounded pretty respectable, though. I am thinking about lugging these along if anyone is interested in the fleapower amp/single-driver speaker thang.

I will bring the Kevin Kennedy-pimped Zhaolu DAC with optical and coax cables per an earlier post for a "DIY" shootout (OK, this one's not DIY, but it's been hacked!). If I cannot find a decent transport with digital output in the dank corners of the basement... anyone bringing one?

Frank, any interest in seeing (or hearing) my decrepit timewindow 1s? There are those who've suggested you might be a good resource for veneering advice (Paul gave me some veneer long ago, if I can still find it).
