NAB adaptors

I have the same problem with my Teac hubs... but the Revox hubs with the o-ring centering system work very well on my x-2000!

Wow thanks for the feedback everybody. I was sure I wasn't the only one having this problem, seems as if it's rather common. I have been using the "lift it a bit" trick for the past week and am just not satisfied with that fix.. they still are always off center just a pinch. Just the perfectionist in me I guess... maybe I'm being too anal?? I have only had a 7 incher deck before and not much experience with the NAB hubs.

Well the problem I am having isn't with alignment (in or out) it's (up and down) movement. I noticed I would have some issues with the 7 inch reels scraping the tape and used the clear CD from a CD spindle for a spacer, then I figured out how to adjust the spindle height

Sorry to hijack but how do you adjust the spindle height? I still have the clear plastic mini cd spacers...

I guess depends on what you have for a model, but my X-2000R has two screws located behind the face plate on the reel motor shaft that are accessible once the outer case is removed. Loosen the screws and the spindle will move in or out to the desired height. I would assume most TEAC units work the same way. Vintage TX would know for sure if you have another model.

That's a sweet Teac Garp :)
Buy a new pair from Teac instead, the reels will be mounted tight.

Old adapters can have broken plastic pegs inside on one side, creating a sloppy lock and wobbly reel on rewind/fforward.

same here - the TEAC' adaptors are a pain in the .... seem's like the small "plastic springs" aren't working ( see photo, yellow square ) - The Revox adaptor works like a dream

Exactly.. Thanks for the awesome picture. Thats exactly what I'm talking about, that plastic "spring" is useless. Thanks again Vintage, Looks like I'm buying some new adapters.... I guess buyer beware on all the used ones I see for sale because your more than likely going to end up with the same problems!

Yes, that's the problem with most adaptors, people use plastic reels and not taking the rear ring off, with result breaking the hub.
Buying used adaptors is not a good idea without knowing what you get.

I tried to see if i could dis-assembly the thing, but nada ;(
And new one's aren't exactly cheap here in Denmark - bummer !

It's cheaper to wind all my tapes onto plastic reel's ... i have a load of AGFA empty reel's - they aren't ecaxtly ugly ;)

( And i'm still wondering why tje AKAI adaptors won't fit my TEAC's ? strange !

huh ? i haven't seen any plastic reel's with NAB holes for a long time ;)

We have loads of plastic over here, if you want we can trade for some Maxell metal. :D

Hehe - why do i sense you're trying to get away from the NAB plastic reel issue ;)

and by the way - what's the currency for metal versus plastic ? Weight ?

.... trick question !

Any clarification on this one?
