NAD 4150 Problem

Hope you don't mind my digging this one out and raising a question or two.

I found the thread helpful and entertaining. Thank you for the information and style.

First off, how'd it eventually go?

Question two, a working 4150 came to me with a working 3150 amplifier; I'm getting ready to fix up the 3150; and I'm debating whether to at least replace the electrolytic caps in the 4150; what do you think?

Eventually bought other tuners. I think I gave away the 4150; the technician balked.

As for recapping tuners... Seems like a good idea that would likely go south if I were doing it, so bad idea for me. I believe in recapping old speakers, but if a tuner were working properly I'd leave it alone. Of course, if you want to widen or narrow bandwidth, you put in different value caps than were originally the design. So... IDK.

Thank you. I can see why the technician balked.

- complicated machine
- service literature meager; not in agreement with what the plant produced
- reputation for poor quality control and cheap parts

I'm probably going to do a limited recap on mine and see how it goes. Treat it as a learning experience.

I started a thread entitled NAD 4150 Recap Questions. So far, all this has amounted to is: me talking with myself. Which is not unusual.
