NAD 7140 Stereo Receiver

I just picked one of these up for $35 (and as Dual 1245 for $50) and am extremely impressed. Tons of control. I love the sound. It works great as a preamp too! With the turntable I now have a vinyl setup!

I have an opportunity to pick up a 7140 (but not at the lower price you got) ---- is yours still working out well? Has it developed any problems with the either of the channels? Thanks in advance!

Mine has never given me a problem. I had it for 10 years although admittedly it does not get much use.

I just flipped a 3155 today with the 616 cassette deck.

it’s been very nice. I haven’t noticed any issues with it. It continues to perform very nicely. It sounds powerful and smooth.

Congratulations on selling it and the cassette. I just listened to a friend's 3155 ---- very nice, robust, etc., but his needs cleaning of the pots, switches. Caps could be replaced, at least on the power board & and the driver board. Sounds great right now. He bought it new in '88 (?).

That's what I'm looking for. Thanks for your response and I hope it continues. I got a 7250PE but it has the same dropping of one or the other channel like I've been reading about. It is a bear with two big boards stacked one on top of the other. I'll give that one available to me another listen and might be prepared to change out the power caps and others.

The 3155 had a discharge through the speakers on power down. You had to turn the speaker selector to off when powering down.

For what I paid, and what I sold them for I was pleased. Especially on a local sale. CL can be glacial. Have not got involved with FBM....at least yet.

My 7250PE has that sound like a discharge but when I turn it on, not when I turn it off. I will look at the voltage rating of the caps in the power section but also in the driver board and order some new caps with higher voltage if they look too low.

I live in a very small market setting, so Craigslist won't do me much good. I could try here in Barter Town to sell off the ton of equipment I have although a lot of won't bring much (a lot of 80s Luxman and Onks).

I got my 7140 used and the FM tuner is not working.

I actually bought it with my 2400 NAD amp as a set so I wasn't really worried about the 7140. When I got around to testing the 7140 I found that all other items features function just fine.

So my dilemma is whether I should get the 7140 FM tuner fixed and have it re-capped or purchase a separate tuner (maybe a NAD 4300). From all I have heard on this forum about the 7140 it seems that it would not be a bad decision to fully restore the 7140.

I will monitor this thread closely to help me make my decision.

Thanks

Don

Are you using off the shelf isopropyl alcohol? It contains 70% alcohol... the other 30% is water. When the alcohol evaporates, doesn't the water stay behind? Wouldn't that be a problem for electronics?
Deoxit and electronic contact cleaner, as far as I know, do not contain any water... hence their value when used in electronics. Deoxit and isopropyl alcohol are not the same thing.
Please correct me if I'm in error here.

Reviving an old thread sorry! @Dony, did you check out the fuses? There is a service bulletin for fuse replacment which affected the Radio section.

Hello Frequency295,

I actually got my NAD 7140 tuner repaired with the help of an awesome Ak member @Ylli as per the thread linked below:

In my case, it was not the fuse that was causing the problem.
