Nak 1000 II vs. 1000 ZXL

Not much is the same. They only share size and the # 1000. Different age, transport, reliability, sound quality and value. $250 is a fair price for a 1000II, if it's in excellent shape, and needs minimum work.

Thanks Perry. I don't really need it, so maybe I'll just hold off. One of these days, I'd love to send you my 660 ZXL.

Sure, just let me know. The original 1000 & 1000II were landmark decks in their time, but they are huge, have a number of unique parts & possible issues. Unlike the ZXl, they are pre TypeIV era decks, so the heads are not as good, and the transport performance only fair. Your 660ZX blows it away in every parameter.

I have a nice original 1000. It is impressive to look at but most any newer deck will actually sound better. However, I have been impressed with how the headphone amplifier sounds with my Sony MDR V-6 phones connected to this deck. Most of the HP amps on cassette decks are pretty lame. Not on this beast!

Those decks have a more warmer sound than later decks but not Hi-Fi sound (lower distortion, extended response)

Sorry to disagree Perry, my recent unserviced 700ii matches my ZXL for w&f...surprisingly. It is also an excellent sounding playback machine too, if slightly noisier....going to see if we can do something about that.

700 - $840 MSRP
700II - $1140 MSRP
660ZX - $995 MSRP
670ZX - $1150 MSRP

660ZX/670ZX wins. All four have record head azimuth adjustments and record level sensitivity calibrations.

And apparently still are, ANOTHER 5 years later. The biggest difference for me is I completely rebuilt and recapped my late SN 700, as well as my 1000zxl. While I really enjoy the 700, it still isn’t in the same league as even my 680zxs are.
