Nakamichi RX-202 Stuck

Have not played deck in over 6 months. Turned unit on and makes terrible noise. No buttons work and motor sounds like stuck.

Thoughts???

To start, pop the hood and tap the mode motor with the handle of a screwdriver. That would be bottom small motor. Also the cam leaf switches on the same motor might be dirty. Have a look.

It almost sounds like it's going from ffw to rev over and over as though the end of tape sensor isn't working and it wants to flip and auto reverse. What does it do with a tape in?

Put a tape in it and tried it but no luck. The control buttons are all liked locked and nothing works.

Like zedex said, appears to be dead spot mode motor. Those are the normal symptoms. Sometimes tapping like he said loosens it enough to operate a bit. Motor most likely needs a rebuild.
