Need Advice on EQ Hookup

I am trying to figure out how to hook up an EQ I have into my turntable system. Current gear is either a Sansui QR4500 or Marantz 2240 with a United Audio Dual 1228 turntable. The EQ is a Soundcraftsmen RP 2212. I currently have the TT running with the Sansui because I was repairing the TT. I'd like to try it out with that reciever first before moving it up to my Marantz reciever. So being the two receivers have slightly different hook ups, I'd need an idea how to incorpirate this EQ to each reciever. My problem is no phono jacks on the EQ. It has jacks for a reel to reel. So, from what little I have read, I may need to incorporate a preamp between the TT and EQ? The EQ has 4 jacks. One reciever amp "in" one "out". One "tape in" one "tape out". Marantz reciever has tape 1 and tape 2 jacks, one set of jacks for phono. Sansui I believe has two set of jacks for phono 1 and phono 2, not sure on any tape jacks I'd have to look. Just looking for advice on how to run cables and to where and what switches to have put in. I read some on these EQ's "work at line level". There is a push switch just for this. So any help would be appritiated.

You can connect the EQ to one receiver only, usually via the tape monitor circuit.

Rec out to eq in, Eq out to rec in. Engage the tape monitor to use the EQ.

What equalizer has no RCA (phono) jacks?

Probably a manual elsewhere on the web but this site with pictures has a download avial for the manual.

Use the One reciever amp "in" one "out" that you mention. The signal output from the amp (sui or mar) goes to the EQ input and the EQ output goes to the amp tape listening input, called play, input, PB or whatever. On the QR, REC is an output and goes to line in on the EQ and Mon is the input to the QR and goes to the output to amp or receiver on the EQ. The Marantz calls them Tape Monitor In and Out. In is the signal from the EQ.

The front panel switch is to put EQ into the line (the amp connections) or the tape connections not adjusting the level of the EQ.

I'll see about posting a pic of the back. Seriously, this eq has jacks only for tape and reciever amp. That's it.

I have downloaded the manual. It only shows hookup for reel to reel.

Thanks for the replys because this has been driving me a little crazy. It may not be possible, I dunno.

Is this the back of your equalizer?

If that is what the OP has then he would just use the top 4 jacks.
Out from receiver to in on EQ. Out from EQ to in on receiver.
BUT he said there are no RCA jacks, are those 1/4" jacks on the EQ?

I would strongly doubt it. I've never seen an EQ that used 1/4 phone jacks, but I could be wrong. XLR, yes, but not 1/4" phone plugs.

In any case, adapters are available.

"Pro" EQ's often don't have RCA jacks.
I don't know but maybe some Soundcraftsmen EQ's are/were "pro" models?
I've bought ART equalizers because even though they are supposedly "pro" gear they do have RCA jacks.

This is for general informational purposes. I'm sure skipper already knows this.

Using just the top 4 jacks the way you have provided will work with turntable playback sound?

Ok th
Nope, those are not what it has. These are the small audio rca jacks. I'm looking for how to run my turntable through the eq. I have the audio cables. I just need to figure where they go to between the reciever, turntable and eg.

So, what you said in post 13 is BS then?

If that diagram in the picture of the back of the receiver (which I supplied, btw) doesn't answer your question, along with what others have said multiple times, then there's not much more I can offer.

Oh, you don't run the turntable through the equalizer. You run it through a receiver.

Ok, this makes sense, I can idenify the hookups on the reciever. Sorry, I for some reason overlooked this post. Ok got it hooked up and it seems to be working. Thanks. Now to figure out how to adjust. I played with the sliders and I can barely make out the sound differences.

Do you know anything about frequency range of hearing? Generally 20 cycles per second (Hertz) to 20,000 Hz. Low, low bass to very high frequencies we feel more than hear.

Vocals will be in the 1,000 to 4,000 range (men to women, in general). Instruments are also in fairly narrow sections of the audio spectrum.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_frequency

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_acoustics

Basically you send a signal to the EQ that is not modified and the EQ will boost or cut a small section of that audio for each frequency section selected, center frequency of the adjustment listed as the control. Unlike a bass or treble control, these EQ controls make peaks and dips like a small mountain at each center frequency. Bass and treble generally boost/cut everything above(treble) or below(bass) a certain frequency in a ramp that has a max level, shelf. So you have a different way to change the sound of the signal. I would think the manual would have some really go information in it. Time to read it. Ask anything you want as you read through the manual, someone here knows the answer.
