Need B&W DM10 recap/crossover advice

Hi, I have a set of B&W DM 10 speakers that I got at a garage sale when I was in high school. I understand that they are budget speakers but I still like to use them sometimes.

Anyway, I noticed recently that the tweeter on one side has gone very, very quiet.

I pulled the crossovers to try recapping and I am looking for advise on a reasonable choice of replacement capacitor... or perhaps someone will recommend a crossover upgrade that isn't out of place for a cheap pair of speakers? I like doing projects for the sake of learning, and would consider putting a little money into it.

Why do you think it's crossower at fault? Have you measured tweeters resistance (good and bad)? Did you try to swap them to see if problem follows the tweeter? Have you measured capacitance on cap you want to change?

Before doing/answering the above it's premature to think about cap replacement. Cap might be OK but tweeter toasted.
 
@Dzm13 has the right idea. It's always a good idea to test everything before pulling stuff apart. Swap the tweeters and see what happens
 
Yep, tweeter is dead as a door nail.
Not sure if it was blind optimism that I could save my old speakers, or that I was itching for a new project but I was totally jumping the gun. Thanks for setting me back on track.
 
Since you're interested in learning, search tweeter repair on this site to see how some people have successfully repaired dome tweeters. Worst case, there are some sellers on eBay that carry diaphragms that may fit these. Buying new is probably not possible, and used working replacements will probably end up costing quite a bit.
 
Old thread I know, but DM10's are (were?) really nice speakers, BOTL for B & W but not BOTL in its universe (circa 1981), perhaps much better than some competitors at their price point...these ARE NOT Radio Schaack MC-1000's ;)

From reading old reviews, the dome tweeter is the same piece used in other B & W speakers at the time, so maybe you could have some luck replacing them...

Sadly, B & W seems like Rega in so far as they don't have good contact info :(
